Thrush in summer??

So my horses hooves smell a little. When I pick his feet out theres like very small pieces of grit and mud almost. My friend has said just because my horses feet smell doesn't mean its thrush??? Best way to treat thrush in the summer? My boy is out 24/7 and currently I use iodine at the moment.
 
Glad my mare's not the only one. She used to get thrush a lot but has been clear for about 7 years, last week it seems to of come back. we swear by Kevin Bacon Hoof Solution , its not the cheapest but it works, it comes with its own brush and you just paint it on.
 
Feed minerals and some salt. Try forageplus or pro earth summer balancer.
Ask a vet or the farrier to discuss symptoms with you and explain how to cure.
Pick the feet out twice a day, brush clean with a dandy brush and consider flossing.
Can you post photos?
Is horse barefoot?

As above, look at diet but I have found sheep foot rot spray very good (not to be mistaken for purple spray) it is called foot master and it's by Nettex. or you could try spraying on dilute Milton solution or field paste by red horse products...

Make sure you get right down iinto the grooves with the hoof pick and you may, if it's really bad, need your farrier / trimmer to trim away some of the affected frog to really expose it.

agree re the foot rot spray think the one I used was called septiclense, and it's cheap as well.
 
Watching with interest as my horse suffers with thrush whatever I do! Horse is barefoot atm out 24/7 and spends most of his time on a dirt track which is poo picked daily. I think I have tried every thing certainly - saltwater, sudocrem, 5% hydrogen peroxide, diluted Milton solution, red horse field paste, I have also tried not treating it at all. His feet are picked out and brushed daily with a stiff brush. For the most part in doesn't cause him any discomfort and it is limited to a very small area of the central sulcus of all hooves but if I don't keep on top of it it soon flares up. He currently lives on hay, some grass and a small feed of Fast-Fibre with Pro-hoof in it with some linseed, brewer's yeast, and salt; but the thrush persists however I manage him.
My next action is vet for antibiotic spray and stop all the ingredients of his feed one by one to see if any of them are causing a problem. My sister's horse who he lives with and who is managed in exactly the same way (other than she is shod all round) is unaffected. Thrush = Right PITA for me!
