Unfortunaltey, one of my horses is on box rest until November

. She is one of those that is always alert and never seems to switch off and (shes event fit

). This has lead to her thrashing about in her box like a wild mustang. Even though I muck her out twice a day, pick out her feet twice daily, and scrub them properly once daily along with purple spray she still has mild thrush. I am now trying iodine and sugar solution instead of purple spray- this worked for a friend of mine but doesn't reli seem to be doing anything for my horse. What do others do

?!

Hoof pick regularly, wash out with hibbiscrub to make cleana dn then wash with some of that Viricon E I think its called...its basically like Detol-ing your horses feet! The Viricon-E is what they used to wash peoples tires and feet and stuff on the foot and mouth farms as they went in and out. Nothing will get them cleaner or bacteria free than that stuff!! lol!!

I agree with Beanyowner. I also was told by my farrier to use hydrochloric acid which you can buy from pharmacy and i had to put a syringe full on the sole not on the frog and hold the foot up for 5 seconds and it cleared up in no time.

You can get the blue/green spray from the vets called Engymycin (bout £7 a can) - its good stuff thats normally used for sheep foot rot! My TB has it all the time in the winter, even though i pick feet out and scrub!

Please don't use hydrochloric acid!!! I think she means to say hydrogen peroxide!!! I am pretty sure you can't buy hydrochloric acid in a chemists anyway (as its pretty nasty!) but hydrogen peroxide you can, and it cleans up thrush a treat!

scrub feet out with Iodine, then i would be sprayng either iodine into the sulchi of the frog or Hydrogen Peroxide.. not sure about Hydrochloric acid.. not heard that one!!

Also get your farrier to lace the frog back to clear up any dead tissue.

Ther blue/green spray does work very well!!

SORRY i did mean hydrogen peroxide what an idiot. For all of those reading do not use hydrochloric acid. Really sorry i feel like a right plum now LOL. I blame work as it is really stressful at the mo

Peroxide will clear it & continue to do what you are doing scrubing and cleaning regulary. Make sure the bed is deep and dry.

Try not to let the hoofs stay wet and if you want to clear it asap formuldahide(spelling) wil clear it straight away. It is used to embalme bodies and some chemist may still sell it. But use only a couple of times with a syringe and a mask as the fumes are strong.

I have used it on my horse and they were fine, if you can't find it though peroxide will do the trick.

Nettex Frog Health disinfectant. Brilliant stuff. Be careful with hydrogen peroxide, it kills healthy as well as diseased tissue.
