Hi all,

Just wondering.. what do you swear on to treat thrush in the frog? and how do you prevent it?

My farrier suggests I use diluted jeyes fluid or peroxide. I also have kevin bacon thrush solution which smells like vinegar but worked a treat last time.

We're using 'petes goo' and scholl athletes foot spray. Also done some white lightning/vinegar soaks & cleantrax soaks when she was bad (and she was BAD!) We're getting there now, but Im sure the winter weather will slow down our progress :-( It's so hard (impossible) to keep the hooves clean & dry unless you don't turn out. Thrush is anaerobic, so thrives in warm wet muddy feet :-(
A lot of people say to use peroxide, but i don't know why. Certainly never helped us.

Also thanks for reassuring me that I'm not overreacting.. I don't want to use what my farrier suggested..
 
Different bugs in different areas. If bacterial doesn't help, then use fungal stuff. But nothing harsh that can damage live tissue.

Diet is important to them being resistant and they need movement in order to grow tissue quicker than the pathogens can destroy it.
 
alamycin spray is brilliant! mine's been on box rest for most of this year so thrush has been a big problem, but this stuff is ace. it's meant for foot rot in sheep and cows! the vet gave it to me, but you can get it on the net and it's only about a fiver..

Silvetrasol - £13.00 each

Stand foot (after cleaning) in a bucket of sea salt dissolved in warm water, let foot dry then wash effected area with cider vinegar, if there is a deep cleft, try lambs wool soaked in cider vinegar and change the dressing once a day. If you think that the damage is deep I would inform your vet.
I recommend doing to all horses feet now and again.
