Hi All

My horse is bare foot and quite prone to thrushy frogs, cracks and slight separation of the white line. His diet was over hauled massively about 6 months ago which has helped with the white line but I'm waiting for the 'good' hoof to grow down. I have been treating his frogs and cracks with Iodine to disinfect them but having little success. Is this the right thing to use? Someone suggested concentrated Iodine rather than the spray i'm currently using.

Any suggestions greatfully received :)

I recently posted on here about thrush and a few people suggested Red Horse products so i went online ordered they came the next day and am very pleased check out there website. I used to use concentrated iodine but am giving this Sole Care spray a go. Lots of good reviews.

Hope that helps

I use Bactakil 55 and pine tar spray. I used iodinde before I discovered this combination and never had much success with it.

^^^^^ this yippe for red horse!! Nothing better!

Red Horse is good for getting rid of thrush. To prevent thrush - I spray hooves with 50:50 apple cider vinegar and water every night after hosing legs off and picking feet out.

Hi my mare gets thrush quite a lot, i flush out daily with salt water in a syringe then use iodine spray (2.99 in dobbies) and then use stockholme tar as a hoof oil type for the under neath..... worked wonders and now hardly cracks at all and thrush is very rare now xx good luck

Unfortunately using iodine might be compounding your problem, as it can kill off healthy tissue as well, giving the thrush bugs more food to grow on.

Soaking with something like Milton, then using something like Red Horse Sole Cleanse might get you better results :)

I struggled with thrush in my barefoot horse's frogs for about 10 months trying almost everything and still couldn't cure it until I used Clean Trax soak followed up by Silverstrol Spray .I also found that you have to pare away the damaged frog or the underlying stuff will continue to become infected. It was a leap of faith to cut away frog on a barefoot horse but it's done the trick.
