It was beautiful, glorious sunshine when I left the house, but almost as soon as I placed my bum in the saddle, the heavens opened!
I don't think I've ever been out in such a downpour!
It was fine and the horses were coping, but then we saw the lightning.

We waited for the thunder...

and waited...

...then BOOOOOMCRASHBANG!!! I have quite literally never heard thunder that loud before, it must have been right above us. I don't think Ned knew what to do, he was clearly terrified, but because it was above, he was unsure. Thankfully he stayed still, but I could have cried. I'm very scared of thunder when I'm out of the house, but I tried to stay calm for Ned.

The rest of the ride went without a hitch, Ned was a very good boy and closed a gate with no problem :)
We even had a cheeky swim in the ford :P

Sounds like you and Ned coped really well in the storm!! Must say I may have had to change my trousers if I had been caught in it!! My boy is fine in the field with thunder and lightning, and we schooled the other evening with a storm approaching and he was good , but getting caught on a hack is a different matter!!

Storms are scary!!! We were out riding once when a storm came up from nowhere - just as we were riding past a radio mast (about 20-20 foot away) an almighty bolt of lightning hit it, bounced around the restraining wires, crackled and pinged around and then (thankfully) stopped! to say we nearly pooped our pants is an understatement. I have never heard such a sound and the lightning display was quite interesting! All four horses were amazing, they jumped around on the spot, shook like jelly, but amazingly none of them bolted or bucked - think they were too surprised. Needless to say we made our way home very quickly and are now very wary if there is the remotest chance of a thunderstom :D
