Hi everyone,
I have a very, very good doer cob who is currently on a token amount of thunderbrooks base mix and herbal chaff. I realise this is not the recommended amount so he won't be getting his vits and minerals. Thunderbrook have now got a daily essentials balancer that is low calorie, but it states that it has high vit B for performance, energy and stamina. I'm really happy with his energy as it is, so unsure what to do. Any advice welcome.:):)

I have just heard about the new balancer too and apparently it is very good re the levels of vits n mins needed without the fillers, i am just about to order some ( as tens supplement have ceased )..my lad has good energy levels too but am happy to try it esp as its been recommended for cushing/ems horses...

Sounds fab but as my horse already gets lots of powder supplement for his digestive issues I am loathe to add yet more powder. It would be amazing if they could find a way to pellet it like Agrobs - then it would be the perfect balancer!

It is difficult to know what to do! I tried him on Turmeric and he went loopy, so something that states its for energy and stamina I should probably not give him. My OH says that cob must be getting enough of something to be the size he is!

From what i gather, to pellet form it they have to use some kind of binder/filler, which defeats the object of a pure balancer :)
More exercise, restricted grazing ( a bit late now but there is spring) soaked hay should help your good doer :)

I would put a big rocky block in the field and carry on as you are as this horse is obviously a very efficient converter of food squeezing every last bit of goodness out of everything (I have one of these!).

It can be done - Agrobs naturmineral is pelleted, Equimins Advance complete is pelleted - both good products (although my horse wont eat the equimins (strong smell/taste) and the Agrobs composition isn't completely ideal for the UK.

If you look at the Agrobs one they have 'green fibres', Apple pomace and apple syrup which are the binders which is not that different to other balancers. There's a whole debate on whether the natural sugars in apple syrup are really any better than molasses. It also has iron and manganese and too high in calcium for the UK.

I really like the Agrobs feed products but wouldn't go for their balancer.
