I have Graves’ disease, so was overactive thyroid but had radioactive therapy, which then led to under active . I’m on 150mg of Levothyroxin a day and miss having an overactive thyroid, my motivation/energy/metabolism are now very sluggish!

Underactive thyroid here, picked up on a routine blood check before I noticed any symptoms.

16 years on and my daily dose of Levothyroxine has gradually had to be increased from 25 mcg per day to 125 mcg per day. Symptoms remain mostly well controlled.

Thanks all so far, so its not uncommon it seems judging by the 3 comments already. After feeling a lump, an U/S has revealed a 20mm nodule on my right nodule and i am awaiting biopsy results, but even if benign i've been warmed the recommendation will probably be to whip it out and pop me on replacement Levothyroxine. was after some good stories as feeling a bit down and anxious currently.

My mother had her thyroid removed 30 years ago and has been fine on Levothyroxine ever since. I have Hashimotos and take Levothyroxine. After being close to comatose before diagnosis, the difference it has made to my life is amazing!! Good luck, you'll be fine I'm sure!

I could have written this as it is exactly my story. I would have given anything to keep my overactive thyroid, had far more energy than I have now and I could eat what I wanted and more :)

Yes it was great , but bad for the heart. Endless energy , minimal sleep, unlimited food but still lost weight. Although I did make a lot of my most “unwise decisions” during those years, felt almost like mania at times, very impulsive !

I had a lump on the left side of the thyroid… I just had that lobe of the thyroid removed.. I have regular blood tests but thus far the remaining right lobe has managed to maintain the correct levels without any meds. That was 15 years ago. The lump was benign.

Thanks so much I’m currently sat waiting for another radioactive scan and am currently petrified, so your story has brightened my mood. Hoping also the lump is benign and that even if removed the other half can pick up the slack!
