It was at the time, very sad. He was a stunning dog, a welsh foxhound with a face like a teddy bear and the gentlest nature.

A guy I work with lives out in the country and a farmer came to his door, said it had killed one of his lambs and asked for it to be PTS rather than him having to shoot it if found on his land again. Owner then had the dog PTS.

Farmer called at the house later on to say the lamb had been foudn safe and well It had just wandered away from the flock and got stuck

I would sure as hell want proof that my dog had done that before I rushed off and got it put to sleep!!!

And Merlin cant be turned out with sheep as he isnt a very nice playmate for them..... he has been seen to run at them, head low, ears back and teeth bared, before bowling them over or kicking them

Not sure if he is playing or really hates them, but not safe anyway...... however he does not roam around the countryside looking for them

Sorry, but horses don't worry/kill sheep/livestock. I had a neighbour's dog attack a foal a few years ago, believe me, if I had had a gun - I would have shot it. Before anyone jumps on me, I have four dogs of my own, they are never on a lead and have my 6 acres to run in, I have also made sure that my fences are terrier proof. Older members may also remember my goose being attacked by a loose GSD a few years ago - would have shot that too.

As a dog owner it is my responsibility to see that my dog is under control, obviously, mistakes/escapes can happen, but a mistake does not absolve me of my responsibility.

Oh yes they do!! Our horses killed some of our lambs last year!! They picked them up and swung them in their teeth. Very upsetting for us!
Needless to say we now keep them seperate until the lambs are bigger!!

I don't blame you for wanting to put the story straight, it must have been an awful situation to be in.
We have had to contemplate shooting our own dog before as it has killed our sheep, fortunately we gave her a reprieve and purchased an electric collar which has proved a complete godsend!!

It does seem rather petty and mean for people to make references to old stuff from previous posts especially when they are done so in a way to make people think badly of the poster!! I would say that does make it defamatory and slanderous!!

I certainly wouldn't want to be on the recieving end of it!!
