That was easy!

We don't get many ticks round here, so when the late JRT got one it was a trip to the vets to get it removed.

I then bought a tick removal widget, which sat unused until yesterday when the current JRT had one on the underside of her neck. A quick read of the destructions and then job done, tick removed intact.

Well worth the £4 or whatever it cost :D.

You did well to find it/remember where you had put it!:D
Well, it wasn't in the neatly labelled 'veterinary' box in the kitchen cupboard, it was on a bookshelf by the phone in the sitting room where its been since it arrived years ago :D! I luckily happened to notice it there not long ago, but I didn't get around to putting it away in the proper place! Which reminds me to do that now!

I always keep 2 as we have a major tick problem here. It's been terrible this year . I got 8 off one Persian last week and 4 from the other. It's a proper worry and nothing really works for longer than a couple of weeks on them. Very few on the horses thank god and i'm very glad the dog is short haired.

Glad that you had one to hand. I bought one soon after I got my current dog, think it's a good idea to have one. It's not something you can wait days for to be delivered, or need to urgently go shopping for. I've put mine in my odds and ends kitchen drawer, which is being organised for me!

We don't get many but mine had one on his head a few weeks ago, no tick remover so googled and found you can cut a small deep V in to an old credit card (or expired BHS membership card in my case!) and use that - it did do the job in a pinch but tick removers have now been purchased for future.

I keep mine at the yard plus a set in the car - haven't had to use them myself very often but I have lent them out numerous times. Very handy piece of kit!

That's a handy tip, it would have saved us a c£45 vet consultation fee last time!

I wouldn't trust myself with tweezers, I'd probably behead the little blighter .

Just checked my Amazon account, I've had this widget for nearly three years, waiting for use.

We get tons and I just use a standard pair of tweezers to get them off the horses and cat, as long as you get them near the skin (as you don’t want to squish the tick when removing it).

A dab of vodka or any other spirit first then the tweezers makes them very easy to remove.

I use my tick tool all the time, I’m taking about 3 ticks off the dogs a week at the moment. I’ve got various different sizes - worst was having to remove a very small tick from my (human) boy’s lower lash line a couple of years back…

Thankfully, despite being rural and with sheep and deer in abundance, we rarely get ticks on the Estate where I live. My dogs only tend to pick up the odd one or two a year when we have been to woodland or the forest. I was so impressed with the O Tom Tick Twister tool though that I bought some for the holiday cottage in the Highlands, as there are loads of the little sh*ts up there.
