Does anyone have suggestions for ticks treatments please.
Most of the dogs are not registered at a vets and have not been to one for years (not mine).
Local vet is happy to dispense bravecto, I am a little hesitant due to some publicity against bravecto and death of dogs.
I am after any other suggestions, ideally I would like to just treat ticks as fleas are really not an issue at all.
I do currently remove ticks by hand but the dogs (6 of them) pick them up daily and they are all heavy coated so some get missed and some days, like one day last week we had 10 hrs on the hill and mountain and 2.5 hrs driving the last thing I really wanted to do was sit outside picking through the coats of 6 dogs looking for ticks before I fed them all and put them to bed and dealt with the house dogs. To be fair I think it was the last thing they wanted too.

The working dogs don't wear any collars due to safety.
I also think my young dog may chew or eat her kennel companions one.
I used one a few years ago on my lurcher and although most people had great results with them, hers used to just ride up her neck and over her head if she put her head down, she has not got enough coat to stop it moving, it's a shame as for her they would be great cos they deal with biting flies too

I use Seresto collars on my three lurchers and my terrier. They have to be fitted fairly tight, particularly on the long-haired ones so they are close to the skin, to be effective. If fitted snugly, the risk of them catching on something is minimal and they have never lost one, but I agree there is a small risk. The young dog eating her mates' is not good either.

I pretty sure the collars would break quite easily if needed. they sit right next to the skin unlike normal collars. I am currently in a very bad area for ticks next to lots of lakes. Was getting 10+ off each dog a day! until I put on seresto collar. meant to last 8 months- probably a little less as mine will swim occasionally.

I think there are some natural deterrents, but I resorted to the chemicals as it was getting so bad.

I can't use the collars on my lurcher as they don't stay on and your right the collars would probably break fine on the collies and the risk is probably minimal, I just can't bring myself to have free running dogs with any collars on though as I would never forgive myself is something happened.
Having heard back from a couple of vet friends and feedback on her Re bravecto it's bravecto we will be going for.
Thank-you for thoughts and replies

I know you've already decided in Bravecto, but here's another vote for it. Have used with no ill effects on all 3 of my Labs although Jake is currently wearing a Seresto collar (vet had advised against Bravecto for another 3 months in case he has an adverse reaction, that's only because he's recently had his spleen removed though. Bravecto gives better protection to dogs who frequently get wet too I understand.

last year we holidayed on Exmoor. Stan got a huge number of ticks and brought a lot home with him too and tbh I got really worried about him getting Lyme disease. He is now on three monthly Bravecto without any ill effects. we went to Exmoor again in June and he stayed tick free. I did see the odd tick in his coat but they didn't latch on. As we are getting an increasingly large deer population locally, he'll stay on three monthly Bravecto.
