Anyone know when tickets for the olympics usually begin being sold? Like a year in advance or not that long?

When it was announced that London had been awarded the 2012 Olympics I immediately e-mailed the Olympic Committee asking when tickets would be on sale and they said not for at least 5 years and that a date had not been decided. There was a thread on here about it at the time.
