It's my horse's first summer at our new-ish yard by the seaside. He doesn't generally get bothered by flies too much but this year he has got lots of lumps the size of a 20p coin. He also has a fair few ticks (yuck). He did attract them at a previous yard and seems to here. I leave them to drop off by themselves as I know it's not a good idea to pull them off. They always leave him with a big scab that lasts for weeks and weeks til I can pull it off. He has one on his nose this evening and it looks like he's rubbed it.
Does anyone have a recommendation for a good FLY and TICK repellent I could use? It's hard keeping them off his nose as I can't really put any repellent on that. He wears a greenguard so maybe something I could put on that instead? If all else fails he has a fly rug but looks silly in it!
So far Lynn Russells fly repellent hasn't worked - with so many on the market and limited funds, what works and what doesn't?
