Ticks !!! Help!!!

I have just been away on a lovely three day trip with my horse and when I got back I noticed the next day that her lovely legs were all lumpy. ON further investigation I found lots of ticks which I removed with my tick remover(Plenty of experience doing this with my dog) I have then hibiscrubbed her legs, rinsed them off and left her in today away from the flies.
Anyone else have any experience of this or any suggetsions of what to do? I am scared all the scabs will leave white marks on her dark bay legs she seems to have sensitive skin.
 
oh yuk, poor you!
we are near open heathland so we have had this quite a lot.
what we find works well is to use fly and bug repellent wipes on the legs before we go out
 
They are a nightmare this year. A pony at my yard is being treated for Lymes disease at the moment. I pull them from the Horse and dogs daily (and myself not to long ago...yuck). I find those green plastic things the best to remove them. Have used fingernails and tweezers as well, but the green things are the easiest. Fly repellant helps.
 
Trick my Grandfather taught me - hot liquid parafin - for sensitive labradors ears and I had one on my tummy when I was about 9 - dip your fingers in it - hot as you can stand (like dipping fingers in candle wax - which also works well) and gently hold them - they either pop or go all hot and relaxed thus loosening the hold they have in the flesh. making them easy to pull out and then stamp on... really foul!
He used to do it for his hunter too though used an old candle stump and a cigarette lighter - (my horse wouldnt have it thats for sure)
 
Have managed to get rid of ticks I think but they have left her legs scabby and weepy have rubbed some sudi cream into the areas which seems to be helping. TRhanks for all ideas I do have those little green things which are fab for getting them out without leaving the ticks head in.
 
Suzysparkle knows the answer we use to spend hours wrestling our dogs to the ground to remove them. Now with those plastic green hooks they're off in seconds...it'll change your life

I use the barrier flea and tick remover. Seems to work ok and ideal when you get a batch of baby ticks!

However dogs won't talk to you for 2 days as this stuff is very strong smelling (but in a good fly repellant way)
 
Get Free Range Chickens!!! they eat ticks!!

Or as someone else said, Vaseline up the bums as this suffocates them; BUT, Make sure you get the Whole head out( looks like a Eyelash)
