Ticks - my boy covered in them - any ideas? meds etc?

Vaseline, get a big dollop and cover the tick in it, the vaseline suffocates the tick so it drops off. Don't pull them off cause they will leave their mouth parts behind and it will get all infected.

Poor pony, must be awful

I've had this before when I kept my old horse on the mendips.
I'm sure frontline in the most effective way of dealing with it, also it will remain in their system so any more that get on him after you've treated should die.

How gross! Thanks for the heads-up on this as I will check my dogs if it's going to be a bad year for ticks.

Yes Frontline is the recommended treatment.

I also have an O'Tom tick hook I use if my dog gets one. It has a double end, for small or big ticks and you just put the forked end round the tick and twist it off, which means you won't leave the mouthpiece in.

ditto really works

Vaseline can cause them to reguritate their stomach contents and all the nasty bugs they carry back into the horse/dog/human. Best advice is to remove them with a tick remover.

Ditto. Remove them with a tick remover and treat with Frontline I was always told.

If you just have one tick to contend with, is it best to leave them and wait for them to drop off? My horse has one and I'm a bit scared to intervene!!
Thanks!
