Ticks

we keep getting loads of ticks of sam at the moment, normally about 3/4 a day!!! Anything to stop them? We just have to pull them out [getting their legs out too]. Is is tick season or something? he never usually has this much, its only recently that he has started to get loads! ideas?

Hi,

I live in Hong Kong, where a tick bite can kill a dog very quickly!! I use frontline every month here - it doesn't stop ticks attaching to dog but kills them within 48hrs.

Summer months are the worst for ticks & you should speak to your vet about the correct dosage of frontline for your dog.

As suggested...... frontline is a product recommended for ticks...you will need to use it as a regular programme.

Hi, I live in France and ticks are more of a problem here for horses and dogs. It's vital that you don't pull the tick because you'll leave the mouth and head embedded in the skin which can lead to infection. I don't know about in the UK, but all pharmacies here sell a hook implement and you use it to literally 'unscrew' the tick - complete with head.

Yukky things, cause they don't just like horses and dogs either <ewwww>

use frontline, and you can also get flea and tick collars which give off something that ticks dont like, however on some dogs they work and on others they dont seem to have any effect!
