I'm glad they could help you/your dog, even better that they did it without charge

. But argh! I hate that it's tick season.
Every year I dream a few nightmares about cuddling one of my pets, and realising that under the hair the skin is absolutely full of ticks which have sucked themselves full of blood, and maybe also some other bugs thrown into the mix, because why not. Argh again! I start to feel itchy just thinking about it.

When I worked as a veterinary nurse, we used to soak a pad of cotton wool in meths and hold it over the tick. Nine times out of ten the cold shock would release the mouthparts and the tick would fall off. Well done to your vet practice. It's nice to hear a positive story.
Yes!! That’s right I remember that cute!! Didn’t have any meths though. Might have to get some in.

Thats not recommended anymore as the ticks regurgitate their stomch contents when stressed so if they are carrying disease like lyme the host is more likely to contract it.

I always used Vaseline until I read this. It suffocates them apparently and it works to get them to drop off.

I am a bit of an expert now though as my old dog was a magnet for them. I can usually just get them off by hand although there’s a knack to how hard to pull and where to hold them.
