Ive been reading up on this drug as someone mentioned it to me that it helps with arthritis. Ive left a message with my vet to see his views but has anyone used it or known someone that has and what was the outcome?
My boy has arthritis in possibly all 4 joints or legs at some part (Xrays will confirm) I already knew it was in his hocks.
Thanks everyone

My horse was treated with this drug just before Christmas for navicular syndrome.
It's too early to say at the moment as 4-6 months seems to be the timeframe my vet has given me. The horse is significantly sounder and back in light work but this is most likely due to the remedial shoeing rather than the tildren at this point in time.

it is more widely used for navicular with some quite good results. there is nothing in the literature about its use for arthritis (OA).
Tildren (tiludronate) is a Bisphosphonate, which is used to normalise bone metabolism by inhibiting bone resorption. Areas of increased bone resorption and formation are typical lesions in a diseased navicular bone. It is unclear how this drug can help in OA - but I think some vets are trying it.

Have you used anything else - adequan or steroid injections? some people have success with these.

My horse has just has his second treatment with this drug for kissing spines. It has only recently been used for this condition, but with some success. He had the first treatment 8 weeks ago, and after 6 weeks I rode him and he was much improved. As the vet had said that she expected to have to give him 2-3 treatments, and I felt that there was still further room for improvement, it was decided to give him the second treatment last week. I had read horror stories about side effects, but my horse suffered none and certainly seems to be much more free in his back. There are quite a lot of reports on this drug on various sites, it seems that it is used almost as a matter of course in some countries.

some horses respond to steriods but not others (mine didnt either!)
What has your vet advised - have you had the xrays back yet telling you exactly which joints are affected?
you may want to get a referral to one of the larger equine hospitals as they have specialists who are more up-to-date with the newer therapies for arthritis (like IRAP therapy).
Good luck

mine!! treated with it in August for Bone spavins and navicular after the steroid injections for the spavins had minimal effect. He is the soundest he has been for years and consistantly so. He is still a bit stiff behind to start if left a few days but that quickly goes and he has far more flexion in his hocks than before treatment.
