I have a timber barn 40 ft x20 ft , designed as a modern agricultural machine store, high roof and mainly fully open to our prevailing south west winds, ( I didnt site it!) . It has what looks Like a metal roof . Last year I had built in 3 stables and store area. It still gets too hot for the horses as little air circulation, plus the flies come in. Last year I had in 3 large windows cut in the back of each stable, plus holes drilled in sides near roof. That at least made it possible to keep horses in during day, but still gets hot. This year Im getting Louvre vents put in the gable ends and another window cut into the side. I have ordered fabric to create shade curtains as they do in the US . I am also thinking of insulating the roof, against heat more than anything. I looked at solar fans , but fire risk too great unless agricultural grade and we are Off grid. If I insulated the roof could anyone advise of a safe
Insulation material . Thanks in advance.
