Hello! Did our first One Day Event on Sunday, on the riding club team, and was just wondering if anyone could explain to me how time faults work? We did a fairly poor quality dressage test (41.5) but went clear SJ and XC, which I was very pleased with as it was only 4th time round a full XC course. I had to leave before the XC results got put up, but have just checked the results on the internet and ended up on 50. So I obviously got time faults, but don't know how slow/fast I must have been to get that many? I'm guessing if anything I was fast, as we almost caught the rider in front and for the last 1/3 of the course could see them in front of us, so J was on a mission to catch them! Or do you get faults if you hit a fence? He clinked one with a hind leg!
Anyway, just wondered if anyone could let me know whether I would have had to be really far to fast or if it is quite easy to pick up that many time faults!
Thanks!!

if the o.d.e. was following British Eventing rules, then it's 0.4 time penalties per second over the time, so 5 seconds over = 2 time penalties, 25 seconds over = 10 time penalties, etc.
they might have been using their own system though, i guess.
there's no faults for hitting a fence xc... unless it's a conformable (collapsible) safety fence, and they're still quite rare.

Gosh, so we would have had to be about 20 seconds out if they are on BE rules. Tricky really as there was no indication I ever saw of what the speed/ bogey time was!! Ah well, never mind, at least we jumped clear!

Thanks! Was very pleased as our record over XC courses has been sporadic to say the least....first one ever, I fell off, second one, we won, third one, fell off again, then clear in our fourth one on sunday!! Think we'll get a new set of brakes so we slow down a bit for the next one....
