I'm currently a restaurant manager but after having to leave my lovely Gloucestershire behind and relocate to Reading (for oh's job) I'm really missing the outdoors!

I used to be self-employed as a groom / rider but wasn't really making enough money (was 16, not driving...).

Anyway, I'm after job ideas.
In an ideal world, i'd like to work outdoors, with horses, be able to take my dog with me and earn enough to cover the mortgage, 2 horses, everyday bills etc etc.

However, it's not an ideal world so I guess outdoors, or with a link to outdoors - something sales related?
And earning slightly more than peanuts.

I've looked into Farriery, and outdoor pursuits instructing among other things but don't think I could afford to live through the training.

Please please help me with ideas, i'm getting quite despondant about it all and am fed up of trawling through pages and pages of farmers weekly, h&h jobs, papers, internet sites and not coming up with anything.

Thank you muchly! x

I'm a pet sitter which ticks your boxes about working outdoors, taking your dog etc.

You're welcome to pm me if you want any info?

No worries leg_end, i'm still open to opportunities if anything comes up.

The more I think about it the more I thing i'm doomed to stay in hotels forever - it's a very hard trade to leave apparently!

I'll let you know if I find the answer anyway, hopefully someone on here will come up with something.

On a slightly different note, I expect you're working but I'm at home all week if you about and fancy a hack? I've just a hedge to lay and a mountain bike to build.

Hope you and leg are ok?

Hey,
There was a lady on here the other day looking for a groom....she was based in Berkshire...think it was under the title of am I asking for too much or something like that in this forum....5 days a week and you had the chance to compete your own horse...sounded a nice sort of job, lady sounded relaxed in the post...

my farrier is really good and is always looking for reliable, hard working farriers....
Woman actually feel safer sometimes with female farriers too and they are sometimes a little kinda and can be more gentle with the horses I have heard in some peoples views...
His number is 07786 576996 - Luke Silcock....
good luck :0)

You could also consider becoming a barefoot trimmer if you didn't want to do a 2 year appreticeship as a farrier (I think thats what it is but I may be (very) wrong). The trimmers in our area have a 5 week waiting list for a trim and charge about £40 per trim so its getting popular. You could also consider training as a plumber which is what I'm doing!
