I have just found a video of my very first time ever ever ever going Show Jumping. It was a long time ago back in 1984 - I was twelve, on my first pony (that I shared with 4 other family members) Spring Fever, who was sold to us as 12 but was well past 20.

A few things to point out - hairnets hadn't been invented back then, and the only riding boots where plastic ones, and I think I found the jodphurs somewhere and the jacket was borrowed.... but you could pay someone a fiver to video your round for you!

Extra points if you recognise the venue

First Time Jumping

Brilliant! I like the pony club 'take off HERE' kicks the best!

Looks like where I learnt to ride (but can't be as they did not exist at that venue in 1984) but my guess is either Badgworth or West Wilts.

Great stuff......... anyone tell you to 'kick on' by any chance

I think someone must have said kick - I was terrified. I don't think the kicking really made much of a difference though

I want to be a kid again.

I think we all have stuff like that somewhere, although mine would only be photo's as noone had a video camera then.

I LOVE IT.

That to me, is what childhood riding is about. Forget style, or flair, you just have the honest desire to have fun and get around, which ever way you can.

Brilliant.

It's Badgworth - before they added the bit you stand the horses in. The used to jump 1.40s in there and have Olympia qualifiers.

I remember that - it was blooming miserable when it was cold and wet! I have a video almost identical - wonder if it's the same time! will dig it out and have a look.

You had to watch thru a little tiny panel of glass on the door. It was lovely when they added the extra bit. I think it was after the Bodys sold it. Probably once Woodspring (The Hand) was built and everyone started going there.

Yeah, it was after woodspring opened - nothing went on at Badgworth for a while, even PC rallies moved. I remember the first thing I did back there was Prince Philip.

Woohoo....love the determination and what a cool pony ! I dread to think what my first time out would have looked liek though....definitely not something to show on here lol!

I wish! You wouldn't have to lecture me after a round if I still kicked that much. I even jumped the first fence and left it up!

You are a little skinny string bean!!
How cools wish I had videos of me riding my ponies bet I rode better then!
