Just a general pondering from me really.

I know there are SO SO many factors which can affect, the horses temperament, its ability, luck etc...but;

How long would you say it would take to take a horse from novice to PSG? (just an average).

Got the ride of a very talented little gelding and obviously I will listen to him and it may never happen, but I have this little dream of wear top and tails, just the once so just pondering the future :)

Interesting question - i'd love to hear some more replies to this aswell.

Maybe 7-10 years? Assuming you go up a level or so each year?

Valegro is 9 at he's competing at gp :o

Assuming that everything is "correct" and with no hold-ups due to lameness/illness etc, then, providing the riding and training are good and the horse is physically and mentally capable then I would reckon on roughly one level per year - this really is a guideline only though!!

Assuming everything goes to plan, no major disruptions, horse has a good attitude etc. About 4 to 5yrs should get you from Novice to PSG.

I went from novice to PSG in 4 years but he had evented as a 5 year old. Started pure dressage at 6 after a small tendon problem. Sold him at 10 when I was offered a lot of money.
