Hubby and me were talking last night and he said that he doesnt like me schooling gypsy with me being pregnant. Shes coming along well with her riding, weve had no bucks or rears, only time she missed behaved was when i forgot my mobile was in my pocket and it began to ring, she took off for a few strides and settled again.

Shes not a beginners pony, she will need someone to help bring her on that bit more. She has come out of herself, i can catch her now easily in the field, we are still working on her being headshy, she gets a bit worked up when i go to put the bridle on her.

Ive popped her over 80cm jumps which she cleared with ease, she doesnt mind dogs or cars. Broke for riding and driving, good to load, good with other horses, stands for farrier and she was good when i got her teeth done.

Shes 13.1hh and is 4 years old, a lovely bay heavy cob with black dapple markings. Im just wondering how much i should put her in for.

I dont want to sell her but with being pregnant hubby doesnt want me risking myself. Ive never come off her, she never tries to get anyone off, she was very badly treated before i got her, was beat about and it made her untrusting. Now she loves a good pat and hug. Comes to see me in the field and others, stands to be groomed and to let someone get onboard. Rode in a snaffle bit.

When she took off with me she hadnt been rode in 3 weeks due to my sickness, and i didnt lunge her before hand, just jumped up, we were going really well and then my phone rang, dohh.

Understands aids now, easily brought back from a canter, does try to please me.

Im just useless when it comes to pricing horses!!

Then tell hubby to get a grip - you're pregnant, not ill

Cant you just chuck her out for the Winter and give her 6 months off? That way keeping her at reduced livery costs and she will be waiting for you once you have had your child?

Just being devils advocate here

My mad animal lol

No i dont want to sell her, there is a girl interested in loaning her and keep her at the yard, but she rides with such heavy hands and uses alot of leg, Gypsy doesnt appreciate that lol.

Shes been past from pillar to post since she was born, maybe thats another reason she doesnt trust many people. Weve got a lovely bond now and it would break my heart to sell her.

Think hubby just worries about me as i had 2 previous miscarriages. I just know with more work she will be she sweetest horse ever!

if you dont want to sell, dont. i can see y OH doesnt want you to ride but as HB II said why not give her few months off but maybe get a part time sharer to help you once you get bigger!!!

Or do what GH suggests. The horse is only quite young anyway isn't it? It isn't going to do it any harm to have some time off. I gave my boy 3 months off last year while I worked away as I didn't want to loan him out or sell him but was working away.

Do you know of anyone else who could possibly be a rider for her?
Nothing stopping you from looking after her and loose schooling and lunging her so if you find someone who can be sympathetic with her then that would be great. I really would not sell her.

I think its because hubby is scared of her, she was petrified of men and would turn her bum to him when i first got her. Shes never ever kicked out at anyone!

Ive been riding her when hes been at work lol, what he doesnt see wont hurt him. Im so pleased with how shes progressed, when i got her i had ones telling me she should be pts as she was a dangerous animal.

She is in foal too, with a heavy black stallion standing at 15.3hh. So when it comes to baby being born she wont be worked anyway. We rent a yard so its not like shes extra expense. If anyone is in northern ireland they should come see her!!!!

Our vet seen her and fell in love with her, he owns cobs himself, he offered to buy Mae off me when i first got her, not a chance!!!!

Right im going to keep Gypsy, i can always keep her fit with lunging when i can no longer ride. There is a wee girl whose offered to ride her, she lives a brave bit away though. I will either look to loan her or give her a nice holiday lol
