Time wasters!!!!!!

I'm selling a coloured mare at the minute and some people came to see her on Sunday. The weather was awful so they arranged to come back on Tuesday. Tried the horse - loved her and went away to think about it. They 'phoned on Tuesday evening and agreed a price,
'phoned back on Wednesday to confirm collection on Saturday. On Thursday they text to ask what feed she's on. This morning I clean all her tack as she's being sold with this, ready for collection at 1pm. Queue 'phone call at 11am - 'erm we've been to the bank and we've decided we can't afford to buy her or pay her livery fees!'
I'm so annoyed I had to share!!!

blimey no wonder your peed off fancy leaving it till the last minute to tell you
 
That's really unfair on you but on the upside it is better that it happened now rather than when the pony has been with them 2 months and they realise they can't afford it so it moves from pillar to post! hopefully the next people will be a forever home for the pony.

I agree with this. It's very annoying for you, but a narrow escape for your pony.
 
I just didn't see this coming - mother and 2 daughters 16 and 20 all keen to ride. Mare is 16'1, really nice sort, honest and williing. It's just annoying that they left it until today as I turned other people away.
 
I think the advice that a horse isn't sold and is still open to viewings until money changes hands, holds true here! I think unless and until I received a deposit, I would still show potential purchasers the horse. You can always make them aware that someone is interested, but hasn't paid you yet - gives them the chance to get in quick and buy!

That's what happened to me - as a purchaser! :p
 
It certainly is time wasting, but I also always want a deposit, they didn't get her vetted either then, probably have no idea so lucky escape for horse.
 
I would also have asked for a deposit Kaylum and woul would to give one if I was purchasing to secure the horse and show commitment.

So annoying for you op but maybe ask more questions of new people re finances and future home.

Do you know why they weren't having her vetted?
 
generally click on these threads expecting it to be something completely reasonable blown out of proportion... For once, I'm surprised!
 
Sorry, but I have to throw a spanner in the works, I get the feeling that the general
ASS-umption is if you don't have it vetted your a bad client.

I maybe wrong with this impression, but if I'm not barking up the wrong tree here, why is someone a time waster/bad buyer/bad owner for not having a vetting done?

My daily plod and "pets" (cue the fluffy comments ;)) were not vetted and never will be. OH's show horses yes, but the plods never have and never will.

I agree - how annoying! I also agree that not having a horse vetted doesn't make you a iffy buyer. I've also never left a deposit in my life. I am from the school that keeps showing horses even if someone is coming for a second viewing - letting the people know.. In this case when they were coming in two hours you would turn people away!

On the subject of vettings, bought 2 horses in my life, first we had 2 stage vetted, second we didn't, I admit I worried like heck about it, and if I were going to do it again I would probably get one but I know lots of people that don't bother with vettings and only one who really should have and got stung badly because of it

Just what I was thinking!
I've bought a lot of horses over the years, kept them all for life and never had one vetted, or wished that I had.
However, I always leave a deposit if I've decided I want a horse and will pick it up later.

Agreed! I've only ever had one horse vetted pre-purchase, and that was because he was very very expensive and I needed a full vetting, incl xrays, to get appropriate insurance.

All the others were sound as a bell all their lives. He was as lame as a dog for 80% of his!!
 
Mind you, I ALWAYS leave a small token £20 deposit, therefore,.if I do decide against the seller has had his/her time showing me the horse covered (bearing in mind,.this only applies if the horse is actually a 14.2 Welsh cob and not a shetland :rolleyes:)

Vetting is a good thing don't get me wrong, but I dont worry too much about vetting my happy hackers.

The person op is posting about would most certainly be given a few choice words on why they were being called a time waster (turned away potentials, re advertising fees etc) I do feel sorry for some Sellers :(
 
I've NEVER had a horse vetted, my choice and my risk and I've bought over a dozen horses. I would have requested a deposit had they agreed to buy her on the spot rather than phoning that evening. As they intended to collect her in 4 days time and pay in full on collection a deposit didn't seem necessary. They live over an hour away so I would have felt churlish asking them to pop over with some money. I will have to harden my heart and make sure a deposit is taken no matter what.
 
Sorry but I always get the eyes and heart checked when buying new. A guy at the yard had one very expensive horse on trial and had him vetted only to find problems with its eyes. Never chance it myself.
 
How blimmin annoying, I agree horse has had a lucky escape. I went to see a horse today and the owner said 'oh didn't you get my e-mail last night?', she had changed her mind about selling.
