Timers for hoses / sprinklers?

Is there such a thing as a timer to put on a hose and a sprinkler? And if so, are they hugely expensive?

Our indoor school has a sand surface and while its great and pretty well-maintained, it does get a bit deep when its dry. it would be expensive and wasteful to leave the sprinklers on all day or all night, but i do want to get the surface wet before I exercise the Moose on it, just so it doesn't get too deep.
