I have had a lovley hunter mare for sale in the Horse and Hound last week, she is totally genuine has hunted for 5 years with previous owner and my sister and I have hunted her too. She is so lovley I bought her with the intention to sell her on and make a few quid, I have been blatantly honest with people that I do buy the odd very genuine horse to sell on, to supplement my income. Is this such a crime I have had so many people ring and when I say why iam selling her they go all funny and say "Well are you a dealer?"
had a woman come last week to look at her, the mare behaved immpecabley the woman was clearly not a rider, I said she could come any morning and watch her out hunting. She then proceeded to say " I think its got to be dodgy because who owns a horse 5 years and sells it to a dealer" I replied you knew that before you got in your car so why have you come to waste my time.
Had a woman today ring I told her the mare was a hunter and hunter only, she said so why wont it do showjumping(No word of SJ in the ad) I said it has never been in a ring in its life.
She then wanted the privoius owners phone number to cross question them, I said no your buying it off me, Ive told you all its history, why dont you come to the bar b q meet tommorow and watch her do her job and you will see her in action and what a good girl she is, well she was determined to go on and on about ringing all and sundry, in the end I said please dont come tonight to view, because if you have doubt in your mind that Iam "doing" you, dont waste my time, and hung up on her.
Now should I start lieing and say ive had her 5 years and make up a major ficticious story or stick with the truth?
If I get one more time waster on the phone Iam going to self distruct!
I once bought a horse off a woman who bred it he was 8 years old, and sold it on to a woman in Scotland over the phone un seen for a lot of money, I still get emails saying its the best hunter to look through a bridle.
Never have i been questioned so much by idiots, its not like its expensive.
Oh and why do people ring say yes its exactly what Iam looking for I will come and look on X day, will ring you first, then never turn up or ring?
My faith in human nature is dwindling fast.
Chocolate cake and Pinot if you get this far. Rant over had to off load.

That is the nature of selling things i'm afraid. :D

Smile through gritted teeth and always remember 'The customer is always right' :p:D

ETA I'll have my cake and wine now thanks :D

It absolutely amazes me the stories that some people recount of their buying and selling woes.

I have - touch wood - been so lucky with my purchases and sales - first time for all of them (two purchases and one sale). But have hear awful stories of some people selling who lie through their teeth about the size/sex of their horses - I mean like you are not going to notice.

Then you get tales like yours when people are such timewasters. I mean I seriously do not have the time to mess around looking at hundreds of horses - I know what I want and a go and get it.

Best of luck

Me too Mcnaughty, Iam very focused when I view a horse if its not what I want I dont let them even get it out of stable.
Ive had a lot of middle age women ring wanting a totally safe hunter, thats exactly what she is, then they add into the mix why wont it go around a newcomers course!! WTF
I think ive been plagued by the middle age women at home board so lets waste a few hours on the phone pretending I want to hunt!!!!
I think my brutal honesty has been my down fall here!

:) I know your pain, but when you look back at it after the horse has been sold and settled, you will think ''all good fun'' really...
I meet all sorts of strange people  One client was having a horse vetted, it was the funniest vetting ever! It started with the vet looking at the passport, which said the horse was 7, the vet looked in the teeth and said that the horse is about seven - all good you would think? Oh no, the buyer proceeded to tell us it's not possible, after all she has bought from a dealer many times before and it is just not on, the passport certainly doesn't belong to the horse:eek: The description matched as well, shock horror!
