I've heard of people being messed about by prospective purchasers, but has anyone else been messed around by the seller?! I had my eye on a lovely mare and was supposed to go and see her today. So i rang last night just to make sure all the arrangements were OK and the lady who is selling the mare has decided that she wants more money.

Now i know it is within her right to change the price, but she could of called to tell me. She expected me to drive the two hours to see the horse - and then tell me that she wanted more money!! I'm not talking a bit more either, she has now decided she wants almost twice as much!!! Now i have a wasted day too....

Yep. We wanted a horse, arranged a vetting. Seller said (she offered) she would drive the horse to part way to meet us at a friends farm where the vet would come carry out the vetting and, if the horse passed we would take him home.

Well, we turned up in our wagon, vet turned up. No sign of seller. So, we waited a while. We tried to call her over and over again and ended up waiting with the vet for about an hour but the vendor never appeared and didn't answer the phone.

So, we ended up having to apologise to the vet (although he offered to drive to the vendors another 30 mins away but we couldn't expecty him to do that as we didn't know whether she'd be there as we couldn't get hold of her). We were v embarrassed.

We eventually got hold of her that evening and I was fuming. She gave some pathetic reason (someting to do with her and her OH) but in my mind that was no excuse for her not ringing us to tell us she couldn't make it. Grrr. thankfully, the vet was very nice and did not charge us for his time BUT we arranged for him then to go to the vendors and do the vetting at a later date.

By this point i think we were so mad with this woman (the whole process went on for a couple of weeks!) we were determind to have the horse from her cos she was such a waste of space. We finally bought him but knocked a fair few £s off the asking price!!!!

Yep, i know how you feel. I went to see a horse last night, 2 hours in heavy traffic to get there. The horse is a very young 6 year old, has only really been broken recently so a total baby. I'm not going to direct you to the advert, because my moral standards are higher than that, but the horse was NOT as described either on there or by phone.

But the owner specifically told me things that turned out to be the opposite, like "he makes no noise" (he made a pretty horrendous noise whilst trotting actually), "he doesn't know how to buck" (the horse pinged around from front to back with it's back arched like a scared cat until i was on the floor, and proceeded to do the same to her until i had to grab the reins for her to stop the animal before she too was sandy also!! I must add that her comment of "he doesn't buck" was not in reply to me asking, i didn't ask!). Horses buck, nap, rear, spook...that's ok, but why didn't she just keep her trap shut rather than specifically telling me the complete opposite? She looked like a real thick idiot and proceeded to chuck the horse on a horse walker for an hour before riding him again. She was scared of him and him her.

The horse had rainscald down it's neck, but was currently stabled 24/7, it didn't poo once whilst being ridden (and was all over the place so i'd expect it to have done so) so i think it'd been starved prior to riding it. I bet it's bad to catch (a bit of chicken and egg there) so it was left out for a while during which time she couldn't catch it.

What a bloody idiot she was, a real 'know it all' little madam too. The worst bit about it was i'd love to have taken the horse away from her, and i do want a youngster to bring on, but i want a clean slate to start with, not a 'project' and i made that very clear right from the start. I hope that someone nice buys it, as i think he will make a cracking horse, but is not for me.

A typical example of a seller having low moral standards - I don't expect a horse that is 'backed, broken and riding out nicely' to want me off it's back, and believe me, i put up a jolly good protest before being deposited. A few briuses and a bit of a limp. haha. But seriously, does she not care where that horse ends up???

My fingers are crossed for the poor horse.

When i got there the horse was so unbelivebly lame and she still wanted me to ride him! When she was riding his whole backend was falling underneath him, she was like ohh he wasnt doing that this morning i was just like yeahh ok, i couldnt believe she had wasted 9hours of my time and she didnt seem remotly bothered about the horse!

How about this for time wasting, before i owned my horse i was selling him for someone i knew. 2 weeks after having him someone came too look at him, they liked him and 2 weeks later he went on trial to them. Now my part was over, but i kept in touch with the old owners and they told me what was goin on. That he had settled in well, this girl had two lessons a week on him went to a competion with him ect. So i assumed that everything was ok and that they had paid for him.

5 WEEKS later, i get txt message off the old owners (at 12 midnyt!!!) sayin that he was comin back that the ppl wanting him didnt want to pay full price for the horse and in fact it was less then half the asking price.

Got him back and he was all over the place, wouldnt lead ran backwards and was thin. So instead of putting him back up for sale i ended up havin him. Was very sad when he went the first time as we had bonded very quickly. But was very p****d off that they had wasted both mine, old owners and the horses time!!!
