Timewasters rant

I once went to look at a horse, it was a 2 hour drive away, I took my very busy instructor with me who had re-organised all of his lessons for the afternoon.

Got there to find his owner was some kind of ageing Dippy Hippy who had dabbled in Parelli, horse was bad tempered which was hardly surprising as she insisted on leading him on a 12 foot rope (no problem with this) constantly prodding a stick at his leg and occasionally waving it in his face (do have a problem with this!).

We got a lecture on how shoeing, clipping, bitting, the dentist, being in a stable rather than out in acres of luscious grass were totally evil, even though the horse had feet that desperately needed a farrier and was approximately 100 kilo's overweight.

My Instructor by now had a visible pulse in his temple, but I was feeling sorry for the wretched animal and asked if we could see him ridden the response was a classic;

"I will have to ask his permission"

She then placed the flat of her hand between his eyes and kind of hummed

She then turned to us and said;

"he says no not today maybe tomorrow can you come back?"

We drove home in silence apart from one or other of us occasionally saying "that did just happen didn't it?"

Absolutely wetting myself laughing at this, and I'm a bit of a dippy hippy myself! :D Did she seem normal on the phone when you enquired about the horse?

I got b1tched about on a forum and called a timewaster when I went to view a mare for loan. The horse was described as having mild arthritis, and a weight carrier, and when I got there she was absolutely riddled with arthritis, on no medication or work to manage it, and had such a badly dipped back she shouldn't have been carrying anyone without a serious programme of long reining etc to build up some muscle. Owner was pushy and was even honest about being a control freak who had treated past loaners badly! I text a very nice generic message saying thanks but no thanks, and the same evening she ranted and raved about timewasters on a different forum. Seems several of us had viewed the mare but declined to take her on, and the owner was wondering out loud if it was her who was the problem, and if so why people weren't saying so. Because you're crazy lady, that's why! :D

I know what answer I'd get from Kane if I asked him if someone could ride him...in a strong Irish accent 'fe*k off Mrs, make me dinner, brush me hair and put me out in me field and stop asking me stupid questions.'

My sis got concussion and a busted hat last week by going to view a horse that was 'suitable for a novice' and it bronced, crashed the fence and tried to wrap her round the tree...

Turns out, only the only had ever sat on it.

She wasn't best pleased.....

Don't get me started.
I am selling my unbacked rising 5 year old and have 2 people ask if he would be suitable for a novice, One asked for a video which I did and no thank you nothing, another wanted more pictures of his legs, hock etc and they said will ring you at the weekend, nothing! A couple of people has said they would ring after I sent photo but nothing. Oh and not forgetting the one that rung asked for more pictures then offered to produce him for me for the coming season. I have had 12 phone calls in the one week he has been on the market and all been a complete waste of my time.

Good luck with selling but you really have to grow a thick skin. I hate selling and don't intend doing it again soon.

I can see where they are coming from with the 'he's big' thing a 16.3 can be a skinny or a full. But often you can't tell until you meet them and as for over-horsed that in my mind as nothing to do with size all to go with way of going.
I once rode this horse everyone raved about and to me it rode like a dog, it didn't have its own mind and it didn't carry you into a single fence, didn't see a stride felt like literally nursing it around a course couldn't wait to get off it. But was advertised as a brilliant forward going horse which it was just not my idea of brilliant. And the girl who bought it did well but she just rode like that, prescribing every move it made. What a bore. Point of the waffle is some you gel with some you don't rather get the right buyer than just any old person. :)

To be fair to these people, at least they were completely honest with you straight away. Is your horse quite bulky? Because I have ridden two 16.3 who I didn't feel were particularly big but went to try a 16.1 and said straight away that she was too big and apologised profusely. It wasn't her height, she was a Hanoverian (I think) and she was just so big and powerful that I knew I would be overhorsed. I'm sure she was a great mare but she wasn't the right build for me. I felt so guilty because I was what you would call a timewaster, but at least I was completely honest.

They don't sound like timewasters to me either, not compared to some of the people I've come across anyway!
I had a woman arrange to come and to see my mare on a weekday at 4pm (she was advertised for loan). At 4pm I was waiting with horse groomed and ready. By 4.30pm I'd tied her up outside and started mucking out. By 5pm I'd done all my jobs and figured that she definitely wasn't turning up as it was now dark and I hadn't heard anything from her (she had my mobile number, I didn't have hers) so I decided to put pony to bed. 5.30pm arrived and I was about to leave the yard when she turned up with her BF saying sorry they got stuck in traffic! I wouldn't have minded if they'd rung, but as pony had just had her dinner they'd pretty much had a wasted journey (as well as wasting my evening). The woman said she really liked the look of pony though, so arranged to come back the next day at 4pm. She left saying that they would definitely set off earlier and she'd make sure to ring if they were going to be late....they didn't sodding well turn up at all!!
Then there was the charming woman, inquiring on behalf of her daughter, who I spoke to on the phone for about an hour. We had a great big conversation about timewasters (which she initiated!) and what a pain it could be loaning/ selling/ buying (she was from a horsey background). She then rang off telling me that she'd speak to her daughter and get back to me...never heard a thing from her! To be fair, that wouldn't have bothered me if she hadn't brought up timewasters in the first place and been all "Oh I could never be like that"!!
