Is it normal for people to make an appointment to come and view an animal and just not turn up?? I had one tell me they wanted to see him ridden, ready tacked up, so drag toddler out in the wind and cold to get ponio, and stand waiting, and waiting.... no show

. I'm getting piddled off now, really really piddled off. Not one person who has arranged a viewing has actually turned up. i wouldnt mind, but he;s such a genuine little fella and doesnt deserve this

Can anyone give me any tips? should I take landline and mobile numbers of all people who arrange a viewing? Do i put No TIMEWASTERS on my ads and risk putting people off?

yes, in my experience it's normal, whether you're selling a car or a horse, there will always be timewasters...

i don't think.. putting 'no time wasters' would put off a genuine buyer.

OH said it's normal when selling cars, but when it's an animal involved and you've told the person you'll take your 2yr old to the yard to ride for them you'd think they'd think to call wouldnt you?

They will be suspicious if he is tacked up before they arrive.

they asked for him to be tacked up.

that is weird.. isn't it? i think it's weird.. you wouldn't ask for a car engine to be running before you get there!!

No, i explained to the people that i would rather bring him in before they arrived as he'd need to be brought along a busy main road with a narrow footpath to the yard (so to have a pony, two adults and two small children would be pretty dangerous) though they were welcome to come and catch him themselves if they wanted. They said no, it would be fine, they would meet me at the yard and if I tacked him up they would like to see daughter ride first. I did think I wouldnt ask for that, but hey ho, you get all sorts.

your house didn't get burgled while you were hanging around with said tacked up pony did it?!

maybe they'll ring you and say their car broke down or something...

Christ, if I thought that way I'd let no-one see the pony. Why would I give out my home adress to a complete stranger anyway??

lol, good point on the way of thinking.. only meant it light heartedly tho..

i have to find peoples addresses from phone numbers and other odd bits of info and vice versa, so i assume other people can do the same!?

I don't think you can find someone's address via a phone number.

anyway, they'd have a suprise if they wanted to burgle the place whilst I was showing them the pony... with my OH in the house lol.

about 4 yrs ago when i was selling my filly i had about 3 people say thay was coming to see her... but thay never turned up i waited about an hour for them.. in the end i started to look at some wanted ads in my local paper and found a loving home for her and they where the first people i phoned, they still have her now

I can only remember one time when a potential buyer didn't turn up on time.....she was a week and a half late! Just turned up at the farm saying she had arranged to come and look at the horse.....I reminded her that she was supposed to come 10 days ago and sorry but the horse had already sold. Very strange woman and had driven almost 2 hours to get here. PMSL!!

I'm not suprised you're pee'd off, how bloody rude of people to just not turn up
mad.gif
Clearly not got the manners they were born with.

I know what you mean though about putting 'no time wasters' on your ads; I always find it very off putting, it comes across as rather hostile.....after all, as a potential purchaser, how do you know if you're going to have 'wasted' their time until you get there and see the horse?! I might just as well ask them not to waste my time by advertising a horse that's not right for me

Anyway, now I've got that off my chest

, good luck finding him a lovely home

I am looking for a horse and wouldnt go and see one that says no timewasters. I would think they would call me that if I found the horse wasnt suitable. The timewasters arent going to think "oh, best not see that one then", as if they are timewasters they dont really care who they piss off.
I see no point in putting it in an ad.
Really feel for you having three people ring and not turn up. I always keep the people I contact fully informed and even phoned one when I was going to be 10 minutes late for an appointment. Sadly, my horse shopping has been curtailed for the time being as broke my leg on Saturday trying one out (my fault not the horses!). A real shame as I had one lined up straight after. I think they believed my excuse as I was in hospital...then again, they may think i made it up and was a timewaster!!! you cant win either way.

Oh you do get a**holes like this sadly, quite a lot of them around too. I had the same happen a few times when selling a pony. I always get their mobile and landline numbers ("just in case I have to cancel due to weather or something"). If they dont show up I phone until I get through to them and find out their reason for being so damn rude! If they have a good reason then fine.

I DO put "no timewasters" in my ads and have always sold so cant imagine it puts everyone off. I wouldnt be put off! I think it just makes the tyre-kickers think again. I dont care if it comes across hostile, the amount of times Ive spent ages tidying up a horse and waiting around for no-shows is just unacceptable!
