TIMEWASTERS!!!

Shame I don't have time or cash for 2, would be nice to be able to hack out without needing a babysitter for mr grumps :) I appreciate the no time wasters thing, as I can imagine there are plenty of delusioned people out there who don't know how much time effort and money it costs. My bots owner told me that someone turned u to try him, ith no hat, didn't ride and wanted to take him on... She told her she would have to come back and ride him, so she did - she did one walk round the arena jumped off and once again said she wanted him. Needless to say she didn't let her!

I'm surprised people havnt jumped at the chance with your boy, I have full financial responsibility for mine, shoes, vets fees, dentist, etc etc...

some people are strange! although i must admit i did onc stupidly buy a horse without riding it because i didnt want to ride in the rain so just saw it lunged! it turned out to be cold backed! they saw me coming! lol lesson learned!

im suprised too! although i have had ALOT of interest they all want him but never end up actually taking him!? i honestly have no idea what the problem is i expect a contract to be signed but that is standard practise right? and all that says is that they must keep him well fed, turned out daily if not living out, cant competitively jump him, and that at no point are they the legal owners and cant sell him/hire him!

Yep contract is standard practice, plus it means that ith sides know where they stand and who pays for what. Mine includes what came with him, and that I must keep him in good order, and also that owner pays any amount over a certain amount for a past injury...

Also says I can't hunt or do polo, but hunting isn't my cup of tea, and polo on the giant wouldn't be much fun either, plus I can just about focus on riding never mind trying to hold a club thing too

And that yep I can't sell or hire him, all standard. Plus is helps give you legal protection if anything goes wrong, loaning without a contract would be foolish in my view (can you tell I study law...) even amongst friends it could save a potential falling out... If its in black and white you can't really argue over who's responsible for what...

Yep i leaned a lesson many years ago of to make sure the owner or someone rides first, getting bronked onto hard ground rodeo style was a sharp lesson to learn, was lucky it was just ligament damage and not a break! To then be told he hasn't been tapped on the bum with a crop before (I did this very lightly) my response was well why the hell did you give me a long bloody whip and not tell me!! Anyway another rant for another day...

Hmm wish I could afford more... When I get a proper job I'll end up with a zoo...

In relation to 'suitable' people to loan your horse ( who sounds lovely, btw) I would certainly not get past the telephone interview! No land, live on an old barge, have two old cars, both rather scruffy, use livery yard, work in an unfashionable profession, and don't have any secure collateral except professional qualifications, intelligence and good reputation.

But - I have owned and ridden horses all my (long) life, and they have never had anything but the best, and with dogs and cats, come before anything else in my life.

I know where you are coming from and why. Please don't discount someone that does not fit your stereotype, you may find that they could be reliable guardians for your precious horse, even though they dont have house, land, stables, fancy profession, smart 4x4 and Oakley box! i know a number of such people and wouldn't trust them with a rocking horse, let alone a real one!

I know I know. The problem with loaning is that there is no guarantee that things will work out no matter how strict the critera. I am so cautious because I'm terrified of the horror stories. What I look for in a loaner applies to strangers, it would be completely different if I knew them personally. You can only do your best.

Perhaps the girl is "working" at the riding school voluntarily/in return for lessons/for experience? In that way she could still be seen as unemployed.

I know quite a few 16 year olds (or thereabouts) who have horses, either paid for by parents or funded by the teenager working.

Me too, couldnt see how a 16 yr old could fund a horse without parental funding, or a job. She's prob working in a riding school. I had a horse at 16, used to babysit to fund the feed. I wouldnt rule out because of age. Some 16 yr olds will have better ability than the average 10 yr olds. xxx

Hypothetical question, even if person appears to have own land whos to say they're not renting it and what's to stop them from disappearing too? Unless you get to checking deeds and ownership then there's no guarantee. I do really appreciate my boys owner trusting me with her boy, it's hard trusting strangers even with references etc...

Again, no guarantees no matter how careful you are.

Although I'll add checking deeds to my list (joking!) lol

this is the link for the add any suggestions welcome! i know i dont have a ic but only because it wont upload!

http://www.preloved.co.uk/adverts/show/106832505/bomb-proof-cob-for-loan.html

in regard to the 16 year old she hadn't at in point mentioned that she worked or volunteered at a riding school to me only maintained she was unemployed and had a baby (she obviously hasnt realised i have snooped on her profile and read her advert!) and after not turning up has msged me on preloved to say she has no credit on her phone!? not sorry i couldnt make it!? and if she cant afford credit she obviously cant afford a horse!

jst went back on the link to her wanted add and shes removed that she works in a riding school!!! and her her personal bit says she already has 2 horses? im confused! definatly feel like ive lost the plot with all this!

Very good post.

Funnily enough when I was looking for a horse i was looking for one exactly like yours... Preferably bare foot or front shoes, cob or good doer... Couldn't find one...

I ended up with a 17hh ish sports horse, who eats, like a well... Horse, and needs a full set of shoes... Etc etc etc... He's a great school master for me so wouldn't change him... I just don't add up the costs each month to keep me sane :o

Oh and I'm struggeling to see why anyone who has just had a baby would want to get a full loan or a buy a brand new horse straight away... Surely they've got their hands full, and their cost of living has just shot up anyway... I understand the keeping the horse while and after having a baby, just not going out and getting one straight after having one, and at 16, also when you can't afford credit how's he poor horse going to get his feet trimmed, get fed etc...

OP ad looks good, I'd just tweak a few bits and add more about horses character etc... Would you be happy if I re-wrote it up and sent it back to you? :)

I no you mention probs uploading pic but try to get one if you can as when I look at ads I'm instantly drawn to a pic.

Could the problem be that the ad is on preloved and it tends to attract a certain type..... Might you be better biting the bullet and putting the ad on one of the decent horse sites? I'd get the ad on local noticeboards and local sites too.

Full loan - can be moved within Cheshire/ Liverpool/ Manchester areas.

Sadly due to lack of time I am looking for a genuine, experienced and loving home for my horse.

He is 17 years old, 16hh, stunning dark bay cob. He is 100% bombproof, great to hack alone or in company. He is low maintenance and currently barefoot.

Please note he is suitable for hacking only.

New homes will be inspected to ensure their suitability and loan contract.

Genuine, honest viewers only please.

- just had a little tweak to see what you think. Agree with above post, maybe try other places such as horse gossip uk forum etc...

thanks milesjess appreciate your help i will copy and paste your re write! :D
kat you may be right im going to stick an add up in my local feed merchants and a propper website
i do have someone on sat coming looking to use him for RDA which he would be great for so fingers crossed! :D

OP I know your pain.

I put my boy on loan last autumn; and just one advert attracted every nutter, fruitloop and time-waster within at least 100 miles of here! It was unbelievable. I'd specifically stated that he could be a challenging ride, but still got kids ringing up who'd had a few lessons at riding school; plus people who'd got no idea of how they were actually gonna manage keeping their own horse.

Then I had one woman rung up, who sounded a likely candidate. We fixed a time for her to come out here and I waited and waited, and she never turned up, no phone call, nothing.

Then she rang me again the next day saying that she'd been called away on some family minor crisis or other and could she come again, that day, because she said that I'd given her priority (I hadn't, no way!). When I said that basically no I hadn't she said she'd come anyway, at the same time as the day before - and lo behold she DID ring this time and said sorry she couldn't come today could she try another day. At this point I told her frankly to go away and stop wasting my time as I'm self-employed and time is money to me, then she got all weepy and said she'd "fallen in love" with my boy from the picture on the website and "knew she was meant to have him" etc etc. She still left text messages even after that....... blimmin woman.

THEN the girl that did have my boy in the end, turned around after only five weeks of the loan and said sorry she couldn't afford it any more!!!! It then transpired with the YO that she'd paid sweet FA for his keep since the day he arrived five weeks earlier!! Which involved me in considerable embarrassment not to say unpleasantness with the YO, who TBH behaved like a total pr@t.

So yes OP, I DO know what you are going through: and DO sympathise!!!

PS good "cure" is a glass of summinck warming, believe me! :)

Blimmin people, what's wrong with them?

haha  oh dear! youve definatly had it worse than me then!! i dont understand what is wrong with all these people! they must have a screw or 2 missing!

Just dreamers.

Im guessing that most don't do any research and don't realise the costs of keeping a horse or pony until it arrives and their yard, or go see the horse before, then evaluate the costs and discover they can't afford it.

Surely you evaluate the costs then decided whether your able to loan part loan or buy before you go and view!

Sorry but I'd scroll straight past that.

Not a fan of preloved for advertising on anyway, but there is nothing that stands out at a glance.

I use NFED (probably not your area), local tack shops/feed stores, local fb pages and dragon driving (Only would do selling through this though! :o)

Won't even click on an ad without a photo on it, sorry!

Get some youtube videos up too if possible. Always good to have a quick look before wasting a journey. Means yours and others time aren't wasted if they instantly see something they don't like.

I'm sorry if this comes across the wrong way, but I'd sort the grammar too. Get someone to have a look through it, I overuse capitals in adverts to highlight point. ie... "Bomb-Proof Cob Full Loan" as header

this was the revised add by milesjess had a bit more detail than my original one in the original ide highlighted in capitals "strictly no more time wasters" and "if you cant afford a horse the do not even enquire!" that a few people had mentioned was very off putting so scrapped it!
so confused, i saw preloved as a popular site that alot of people use (i bought my beloved anglo from there!) ive seen on every add site people put no time wasters so it cant just be preloved that gets them!
would a video clip really help? hes not a competiton horse by any stretch of the imagination, he cant jump (due to old injury) and hes very lazy! (which i do stress before they view!)
i am getting A LOT of responses from the add its just the ones that do turn up say they love him and will have him ask me to draw up contract theve booked a box/trailer then just never turn up for him and give daft excuses that im stressing about!

I wouldn't respond to an add which said no timewasters. It looks rude and aggressive to me, and as someone else said it all depends on your definition of timewasting.

Same here I wouldn't bother either.

I think you just have to be philosophical and patient about these things frustrating though it may be you will drive away genuine enquirers - it works both ways.

I've been on both sides of sharing a horse (as owner or just sharer) and dealing with weird owners was far worse than dealing with weird sharers :D

I certainly think your ad needs some photos. Other than that, I'd be quite interested if I was looking, except he'd be a bit big for me.
