My mum's labrador puppy is about 12 weeks old. She is lovely but is driving us mad as she keeps peeing on the floor in the house. She is a very timid little thing and we think it's because she's frightened as she only seems to do it when there are lots of people in the house or people she is not sure about come in. She is particularly bad with men - at one point the mere sight of my brother and my husband would set her off. Last night we went round to mum's for dinner and there were 9 of us in the house, all people that she has met before regularly but she still did several puddles on the floor (in quick succession) despite being let out regularly and everyone being nice and quiet with her. Mum thinks it might be because the day she came she weed on the floor and Si (my husband) told her off, but I'm not sure.
Can anyone shed any light on this problem and how to solve it? She can't keep on weeing on the floor all the time even if she does get nervous! She is meant to be a gun dog, god knows what all the guns going off will do to her!

We have had lots of dogs in the past but have never encountered this problem before!

She sounds submissive.....as she is just a baby she needs to find her feet....for the peeing all over the house...I would introduce a crate...to help her along with her toilet training and confined her space......get her used to going from crate/confined space to out side frequetly and give her a command and treat/praise...dont over do the praise if she is submissive....the idea of the crate is to allow her to get used to going from crate to garden...then a little play time in the house...not just free rain of the house.
Then repeat the excersise....after play...back in crate, spend a good period in there...then place her back in the grden b4 next play time.....watch her from he window...dont stand over her....when u see her pass a motion....go out....and say wee wee or the other..lol

and slip hera quick treat, make sure she is nearing the end of the motion as not to break the passing....lol.

good luck...Im sure u will get somemore advice.....I hope all this makes sence.....im in a huge hurry and off to work now

Its best not to over do it with praise and kindness if she is submissive as this will make the problem worse.....allow the puppy to come to people rather than them approach her.....and try not to tower/bend overher...this will make her crouch and wee....if she displays behaviour of crouching/rolling on her back....walk away...thus ending the behaviour...and she will immediatly jump back onto her feet again.
Some dogs will always show submissive behaviour the key is not to heighten the problem....by talking....going over board with greeting her.
I would allow people to enter the house...and only when they are seated....allow her into the room...let her get her confidence up and walk around to greet people....get them to hand her a little treat....let her then go to others....dont let them bend down to her or overly fuss her.

Find some submissive article on the net and give them a read...this will help u better understand how to help her

I am sure it may just be a submissive problem too that can be helped with socialisation classes or a good trainer, however can a I also suggest that you have the dog checked by the vet. I only say this as my 5 months old pup at 3 months old kept peeing uncontrollably and it was becoming really frustrating. Anyway after lots of vet visits he had some scans at the hosp and it showed that he had bladder stones and could have gone into kidney failure. He had to have immediate surgery and had now thank god made a full recovery and is doing well. Like I say I'm sure that your pup is just having a behavioual issue but I recommend getting it checked just to make sure. Also since the op he is 100% house trained
