Im doing dorest county on sunday was going to stay over night before but due to my nan being ill cant now so going early in morn. Just trying to decide what time to leave.

Ring opens at 8am with 2 classes before mine that have 7 in first class then 13 in next class. Mines the one after. So how long does each class take on average? This is in-hand showing.

Thanks its gonna take just under 2hrs to get there, dreading it as 12 in class and my youngsters a bit fat still.

I think if you leave after 6 then if you have any traffic jams (which hopefully you won't) you should be there after 8, good luck you will be fine. Awwww don't worry bet your youngster looks fine :D Can't wait to hear report x

LOL at Dunster she got told she was a fattie, bath and west and deven she came 2nd so guess they dont care too much. She has gone from 500 down to 400 in past few months since i brought her. Which is still too much for a 2 year old!!!!

Awwwww bless her, 2nd brilliant, well done :D From 500 to 400 that's fantastic! I wouldn't worry to much, just enjoy the day out :D x

Good luck at Dorset, we're going tomorrow. I think we have to leave home at 5am and leave our yard at 6am. The journey is about an hour and a half. Its a good idea sending through the number of entries for each class, at least you have some idea of time. The classes before ours only has 3 or 4 in so they may get through them quite quickly. I should be off to bed now with such an early start but my heads too busy.

Hi. Sorry but I've got to say I think those timings are seriously out and you'll risk missing your class!!!
If the ring starts at 8am and you're second class in, with those numbers you could be in the ring anytime between 8.20am to 9.00am depending on how many turn up on the day. You also need to factor in that you might be up to 15 mins walk from the ring. Do you already have your number or do you need to collect it on the day - could be another 15 mins getting to and from the secretaries tent. There might also be a queue of horseboxes getting onto the showground, they do tend to get busy early on.
Personally I would aim to get to the show for around 7.15am, collect your number, locate your ring, and to be changed with your pony ready to leave your box at around 8.00 to 8.10 to give you time to get to the collecting ring and have a walk round and settle your pony.
Hope this helps?
Good luck!

Thanks already have number and all info in main ring which is 2 min walk from parking area and its 2 classes before mine. Person taking me says its 1hr to get there by car so saying 2hrs with trailer leaving at 6am so should be there by 8am at latest. As in-hand youngster already to go so only have to put bridle on and walk to ring. She has done a lot of shows so doesnt really need time to settle in.

I doubt you will be in the ring before 9am to be honest!
I have spent HOURS hanging about waiting for one or two classes before me to finish.
13 in one class is quite a lot and by the time they walk round, trot, line up, walk around again, line up. thats quite a long time!

Would only say, get horsey out of trailer quite late on. nothing worse than him/her going off the boil, getting bored, starting to fidget etc. Either that or get someone to keep an eye on the ring and let horsey relax somewhere quieter (if you can find such a place!)

Good luck!

I've had some timing shocks this year, have been showing in hand for some time but shows this year have really taken the biscuit. At one I was ready one class before mine, at 10.45, the class finished, judge and steward disappeared, secretaries tent was miles away and I assumed the judge had gone for a comfort break - the tannoy system didn't reach the ring, and I only found out what was happening when another competitor sent their friend over to the secretary to find out (I travel to shows on my own) the class eventually went ahead at 3.30pm!!!!! the judge had actually gone to judge some huge qualifiers in a different ring and then went for a late lunch break - thanks to the organisers for keeping us informed about that one - not!
At a show last week the ring was 8am start, I was 6th class in, there were a total of 50 entries in the 5 classes before mine so I thought my class would be any time between 10 and 11am - yet my class started just before 9.30am - that's not even 2 minutes per entry!!!
I really wish more organisers would use "not before" times, I know things might not look to run so smoothly but it would make competitor's lives so much easier (well, mine anyway ha-ha!!)
