Hi as per vet advice I would like to change my pony’s diet to Timothy hay/haylage. He’s extremely good doer and has mild dust allergy. Nothing major just coughs sometimes. Won’t eat soaked hay and yo hay that he grows is very very dusty plus is rye mixed grass so not suitable for him. It’s old dairy farm but we are on very minimal grass. We are expected to purchase yo hay. At the moment I’m feeding horsehage Timothy and I do get “looks” from others when I’m doing my haynets but I’m wanting to get some Timothy hay in. How do I go about it? I don’t want to upset anyone but my horses needs comes first. I’ve been storing bale of Timothy hay in my husband’s van at home and secretly sneaking hay into the yard for past month.
can someone advise? Has anyone been in the situation where you are expected to buy yo hay that isn’t suitable for your horse?
thank you
ETA I can’t get steamer at the yard as there’s nowhere to plug it in.

You could just tell YO that it’s for veterinary purposes and give them permission to speak to your vet if they want. That’s very different to just choosing to buy in hay.
