Tinadog is going deaf

Not content with only having one eye, Tinadog has now decided her hearing is going too

She can only hear really high things, such as a whistle but if I just call her she just doesn't notice

I know the chances of it happening were high, but I'm still sad all the same.

She is trained to hand signals for working and to the whistle so will continue working on a while longer, although semi retired so will only work easy retrieves. Cindy can do the difficult ones

Poor Tina. I have a GSD who at 13 and a half is almost totally deaf. She is pretty good with hand signals but I can't really let her off lead away from home because if she puts her head down and gets a scent I can't get her attention.

We do have to be careful about approaching her from behind, poor girl jumps out of her skin. Hope she is able to keep doing some easy retrieves for a while yet.
 
Bigs hugs from me. Was the situation with her eye in any way linked to her hearing, or are they separate issues?

Glad to hear that she is already responsive to hand signals.
 
No, not linked just the fact she's getting older (9) and obviously has been in close contact with guns from a young age so it just takes it's toll I'm afraid.

The dog at the yard is going very deaf - she sometimes randomly barks at you - because she's only just noticed that you have arrived even if you have been there for hours...

Is a good job she trained to hand signals. I actually find Loki is better with hand signals than verbal xx
 
Por Tina - I hope she doesn't mind too much, and if she can still hear a whistle thats something??

My brother's 11yo black lab has just been diagnosed with bladder cancer, so as you can imagine we are devastated. I wish they didn't have to get older!!!
