Hi guys, I was just wondering if anybody has a horse or come across a horse with Tinka's Boy bloodlines? (The Swiss Showjumper, KWPN). My new boy, also called Tinka's Boy, is apparently one of his offspring but as he was ungraded, we cannot know for sure. He has a dirty roan white sock on his right hind which I've heard is a common feature of Tinka's Boys offspring.

His stock are easily registered so I doubt you are being told the whole story re his parentage ,who would pay 1000 euro stud fee if you could not register them.

Tinka's Boy was used at stud when he was in the UK with Nick Skelton - mostly by the show jumping fraternity themselves. Once he went to Switzerland he was not used at all until he retired from the sport. I think it unlikely that anyone would breed with a horse of that calibre and not register the product with a sport horse stud book.

Does your horse have a passport from a breeding society? If you really want to verify the breeding it should be fairly easy to do a DNA test.

According to his previous owner & the lady who imported him-
Tinka's Boy sired around 50 foals in 2003 in the Netherlands at his home to stud to mainly home mares. Due to how expensive the process was, they only chose to grade/register 20 of them. The other 20 were sent to rearing studs, were gelded and then sold on/exported. Traditionally, they name the foals with part of the sires name. So you can see how I'm connecting the two here - My Tinka's Boy came from the same stud that owned the stallion Tinka's boy.

There are several issues that make me suspicious.

To the best of my knowledge (and as a breeder I did try to buy Tinka's semen while he was competing) he was not used as a stallion at stud or any semen collected during his competitive career.

Indeed in 2003 he competed in the European Championships. He was jumping at the top international level throughout 1999 to 2004 period.

However this is not to say that someone in Holland had not got frozen semen stored but not available on the market. However they say that the process of breeding the 50 or so mares was expensive so they did not register all of them? That is odd as they would be worth so much more money if they were correctly registered. Perhaps the semen should have been destroyed as a result of the agreement in the sale of the horse so they were unable to register the progeny as it would show that they had not complied with a previous agreement? Who knows - this is the horse world!!

Even more strange is that I assume your horse was bred in Holland in 2003? Horses in Holland may be registered with part of their sires name but they all have a name beginning with a specific letter of the alphabet for each year and 'T' for Tinka's Boy was the letter for the year 2000!

As I said in my previous post, the only sure way to be certain is to DNA test.

I have to say realistically does it make any difference now! your boys no good for breeding and personally I think you have been spun a line! Whatever you do you will not get paperwork with his breeding on .
You may find this interesting.http://www.sporthorse-data.com/sirepages.htm?id=10214233 You will see the timelines just do not fit nobody in their right mind would have collected or frozen semen from an ungraded stallion before he came to England.

Have a look on horsetelex.nl. There are 122 registered foals from him. I believe its the same stallion. He is ungraded. Got as far as the 2nd round at the grading.
Can't see a My Tinka's Boy among them though.

Have a look on horsetelex.nl.

Love that site micramadam! - I will find time to play around with that for ideas as to how to cross my KWPN mare by Hors La Loi x Landeur. She is a Grade A jumper in her own right so any suggestions welcome. Need to add size and hopefully scope as she is only 1.65 so struggling above 1.45 - 1.50.

Have also to add that despite not being Graded by KWPN as a stallion Tinka's Boy was one of the very best horses in the sport and deserves to be a stallion! I see he is approved by SF, AES, Hann and CH so no problem registering stock.

Thanks micramadam - all the new web sites are very interesting. The mare is due to foal to Kannan in mid April so I still have time to make the final decision!

I have a horse by Tinkas Boy and tried to look on this website but couldnt seem to get the website in English, did you manage to access it in English?
