Hi

I wondered if anyone could advise where I would get a tiny body protector from? My little girl has just started riding (she's 21 months but quite petite, still in 12-18 month clothes!) and I have a hat on order but I'd like her to have a body protector too if I can find one to fit...

Thanks :)

Hi, I can't help you with regard to the body protectors. But can ask where you've ordered your daughters riding hat from and which you went for? My daughter has a tiny head and I can't find one locally to fit! x

I've gone for one of these - they're about the smallest I could find & may still be too big but I won't know until it arrives, it's adjustable so hopefully it will fit...

I was also looking at the Champion body protectors on this site in childs xs but 60cm is still possibly too big especially when only wering a t-shirt while it's warm...

I have a TEENY Charles Owen Show hat - I think it's a size 6! Outgrown by my little girl when she was about 2 and a half if I remember rightly :)

As far as body protectors go I never bothered for my tinies, I think it's hard enough to balance when you are that small without a body protector to upset the applecart and I have a friend who is an instructor who doesn't reccommend them for very small children for that reason. When mine were tiny they always had someone walking beside them who could quickly grab them if anything went wrong.

This is what we do at the moment! Maybe we'll just carry on like this for the next few months and get her one next year...thanks :)

I personally would not bother with a back protector at that age. You should be hanging onto a leg at all times really and a back protector can be very restrictive for a little one. I really don't think they come that small anyway.

As above.

My three and half year old wears a small BP now but has ridden for the last 18 months without one.

In the early early days we had a leader plus an along side walker and there was NEVER a situation where he could have fallen off. I wanted him to be able to feel himself move freely at that stage plus he never rode for more than about five/ten minutes at a time.

Now I am leading the pony on my own with him (have taught pony to 'lead' with me walking along side my son - bit further back than the show ring so can grab him if need to) he wears one all the time even though I still often mostly have a hand on his leg.

p.s Charles Owen did a hat that fitted him last year. Cant remember size now as gave it to a friend but he has a small head.
