The big ginger sausage had to have the vet this week for an eye problem, not the first time, he had a bad eye last summer, well getting ointment into eye is a nightmare, any this week I
decided to try something different, and hey it works a treat :-), so I thought I would share this, sorry about the sound quality, but bare with it.

Certainly works. My mare tried to remove her eye with a large nail a couple of years ago and we had to squirt drops into the resulting hole which went down into the lower lid (thank god she missed the actual eye) Luckily for us she was a complete saint and stood each day for it to be done, but, had she not I would have found this a valuable trick.
 
Obviously some on here can't read or have vision problems themselves, THE..FINGER..WAS...THOROUGHLY...CLEANED..BEFORE... APPLYING...THE....GEL, WOULD ANYONE ON HERE LIKE ME PUT IT IN BRAILLE, OR I COULD APPLY SOME EYE OINTMENT FOR YOU TO HELP YOU WITH YOUR POOR VISION ?

Needless to say the minute he was put out in the wet muddy field, he rolled both sides of his face in it all round his eyes.

Oh yea, he won't do with nose twitching......., sorry........, for the visually impaired on here, HE WON'T DO NOSE TWITCHING, I HAVE TRIED THAT BEFORE.

What a very rude reponse! If you're going to post a video of yourself ear twitching a horse, you need to accept that you're going to get comments you don't like. No-one is visually impaired, or unable to read - the facts present themselves.
 
In fairness (and I am laughing at this!) ...final response is in upper capitals as OP has already said finger was clean....several times!!!!!
 
There are better methods to apply eye gel et al., than ear twitching, imo.

So clean that's why there was dirt all around and under the nail as can be clearly seen in the video? If that's his idea of "thoroughly clean" I'd hate to see what his hands look like when dirty..

Brill, put a video on so we can "all benefit", unless your skill is only being an unhelpful critic ? I was struggling to apply it, for what the vet cost maybe she should have shown me some other clever way, but she used a sedative at great expense, I await your video in anticipation as your method is going to be soooooo superior.
 
I put eye ointment onto a cotton wool make up pad and sneak it onto the eye. Its much easier than worrying about stabbing the end of the plastic applicator into their eye if they move....

My horses don't require eye ointment, therefore I'm not going to apply it to their eyes and upload the video on here just to prove a point to some grubby-handed bloke with an attitude problem. Your opinion is not important to me. If you don't like criticism, don't upload videos of yourself twitching your horse's ears and then smearing eye gel into its eyes with a dirty finger.

How's that for "superior," cupcake? x

Ahhh....what is it with new posters getting really sniffy? Play nicely..and yes everyone is entitled to their own opinion but.... Perhaps a little thought before responding?

Well unlike such as Fiona who actually posted something worthwhile and helpful to add to my post, my guess is your not capable of anything so complicated as uploading a video of anything helpful or useful to others, you just carry with the usual troll comments sweetheart we come to expect of the internet.
 
I'm all for any easy method that might help get a tricky job done. I wouldn't classify that as an 'ear twitch', more of a distraction and don't have a problem with the pressure/force used in the video and can say I abide ear twitching!

The application of the eye treatment does not require a sterile environment and I highly doubt the horses recovery was jeopardised for the sake of a video.

I live with a Builder and he can soak in a bath for nearly an hour and not have immaculate looking hands but if needs be I'd let him put some gel in my eye with his fingertip. I think instead of bickering we should all chip in and buy Pedantic a manicure session for giving us the tip. :)

This is it in a nutshell! There is also a million miles between holding an ear and twitching it. I imagine the horse would be in more discomfort with a very sore eye if he didn't gt the gel than the brief couple of seconds holding his ear. When it's all over I expect Pedantic will take the time to make sure horse is happy with having his ears handled again.. I am aware of how much he cares for his horses.
 
He only held the ear for a very short time and it looked a lot easier for the horse than than any other way. I am grateful for him sharing the tip, and did not think that his hands looked dirty, that is what a working man hands look like .I wish that I could save this to find it again if I need it some day.

Quick, easy and no stress to the horse. That is how I put ointment in, the only difference is that I use a surgical glove, a few boxes of which are very useful to have around the yard.
 
Just seen this and yes when dealing with such delicate areas as eyes maybe surgical gloves would have been more desirable to use.

Mind you I live with a mechanic and his hands can look dirty even after scrubbing really clean.
