Hey......

Im after any tips you have on getting fab bright white socks :) I have my first inhand show with my youngster on Sunday!

Also he has 3 white hoofs (sp?) 1 black hoof do I put clear oil on all four? or black the black one?

Many Thanks :)

My friend does all 4 feet black and uses chalk powder on his sock. Even though that foot is white, she does it black as well. However don't go overboard with the chalk otherwise you end up with a grey hoof ;)

Wash with fairy liquid then put chalk paste on when still wet and leave to dry. Re chalk any dirty bits before you leave and brush out when you get there. :)

Hi

I black all my horses feet because i like how it looks and she has four white feet. If you dont like the look of that then clear on all four.

As far as white sock i have a few tips and tricks. First i use warm water and get them really wet, i then use a normal cheap shampoo to get the worst muck off. i then wipe the bright white blue shampoo onto them with my hands and rub in and leave for a while. Then i get quite a firm brush and scrub away (being careful not to make them sore) I also use a slightly controversial method of none biological hand wash powder, i do a patch test first though. get a handful, mix it into a paste with water and then rub it in. get a brush with some blue shampoo on it and rub away, i struggle to beat that whiteness im afraid!

Once you have done that, buy a massive tub of baby powder (cheaper than chalk powder) and add loads of it to a small amount of water and mix it up until it is all mixed in. Dip your sponge in and soak it up and then let it rinse off the sponge and all over the white socks. Once it is dry you can leave it until you are at the show and then give it a really good brush our with a soft bristled brush and hey presto. I also use that show magic oil spray (cant remember the exact name) to really make them sparkle!

We have 3 stripey feet with socks and one all black leg/foot

I use naf hoof moist in black before we load/ while platting up which just evens out the tone of the hoof and wears off a little on route and then sabline when we get there for a more subtle effect than hoof black.

I am going to try vanish soap next weekend

Well my boy is black so think black feet will look good!! My mare is chestnut so think I may go clear on her! Off to get vanish or hand wash powder! :)

I use Fairy liquid - makes them nice and bright, or even asda's own shampoo (the smart price one), works a treat. Then I put coat shine on once their drying as it makes it easier the next day to remove dirt etc.

Also you can get good stain removers from most tack shops too. :)

Had a chestnut mare with 4 white legs, I also used to use Fairy but the BLUE version as this gets them sparkling! We once tested 2 of her legs this way and the other 2 with horsey products and my 2 won!!! Also used to chalk them and then use wraps overnight to keep them as clean as poss if I had to wash them the day before..........

Yes just normal fairy works better than anything else and is cheaper :) and yes make a paste from chalk and water then I use a paint brush to put it on, I find its better than a block. As for the hoof oil I would just stick clear on all of them, you could black the black ones the night before then clear in the morning so its not as obviously blacked.

I use a whitening shampoo and rinse with supreme products blue rinse. Then whilst wet I chalk using gold label powder and a cotton glove. I use supreme products hoof stain the night before too. Then the next morning is just brushing and touch ups

I always do the legs the day before, scrub them with fairy liquid, rince off and then spray the white bits with purple spray and scrub with more fairy liquid, I can't remember why but the purple spray gets the white bits gleaming, then cover in chalk and if very dirty I bandage, just brush off the chalk at the show ;) I also use furniture polish in the tail, only on the hair but it works just as well if not better than mane and tail and much, much cheaper.

Haven't read all the replies so apologies if these have been suggested...
Silver shampoo (it's actually purple but for grey and light blonde hair.
Washing powder- I struggle to get anything whiter than I can with this.
whack on some chalk.
