Tips for dealing with the welfare charities?

Myself and YO were made aware of a potentially serious neglect case today.

We immediately called the SSPCA and I demanded that an Inspector contact me with their action plan and timescales. Unfortunately I missed her call and now have to wait until tomorrow. By the time I got home from yard I had missed WHW opening times so will be onto them too in the morning. I've also spoken to my vet about funding a visit to this poor wee mite as owner is unknowledgable and pleading poverty. Is there anything else we can do??

Feeling sick, angry and so frustrated.

Educate the owner for a start, do they have a car? If so they need to sell it to fund their responsibility.

Bless you for helping. BHS welfare department are very good.
 
If what he says is true (and hopefully not worse), it is past that. She will need to be re-habbed and rehomed at best.... If it comes to it YO and I will try and buy her for a nominal £1 to see her done right by - but neither of us has money/time/use for her long term so we would need to sign her over to SSPCA/WHW if that was suitable for her. But we won't rest until her situation is resolved one way or another.

LOL, good point!

I've just heard that the knackerman is booked for tomorrow - it MIGHT be the kindest thing for her (the pony, not the SSPCA wuman!), or totally unnecessary.

Either way, the welfare bunch won't be there in time so perhaps it's time for Plan B.....
 
tbh if plan b is buying and signing over to a charity then I would let the knackerman do his job, there are far worse things than death! The charities are all bursting at the seams and if the owner is willing to do the responsible thing then let them get on with it.
 
Dolce, I do agree. Having said couldn't afford vet visit he was oblivious to cost of knackerman which just begged the question of what was going to happen to pony if he could afford neither, and I certainly couldn't live a stones throw away and do nothing under those circumstances, even if it was to take her and PTS. He has had all sorts of offers of help, from taking the pony to free livery while he gets her sorted but has refused it all. He has now cancelled knackers and got vet coming......tbh I almost hope they say the wee thing needs to be PTS because by his own admission he doesn't have any money for ongoing care.
 
Long chat with SSPCA first thing, they assured me they were sending an inspector out today. Inadvertently word got back to owner that visit may well be pending and surprise surprise pony is now "under vet care" - though whether that is result of SSPCA visit or owner taking fright (which frankly should make no bloomin difference) I don't know. Ultimately pony should now be getting monitored and treated and although I don't believe she should be left with owner it's a better position that she is in tonight than she was 24hrs ago.
