I have never done a show before as my yard doesn't really do any and i dont have my own horse. I am doing my first show in afew days and im not nervous but just wondering if you have any tips. Btw i am doing two inhand classes and one ridden. Its just people from my yard so not scary but most have already competed before. Im not a bad loser and am taking it as a bit of fun but its always a bonus if i do well. Thanks in advance :)

For your inhand classes wear trousers of opposite contrast to your horses legs. Make sure your horse is walking out well with you by his shoulder, not dragging him along. Stand him up neatly for the judge and keep his attention, walk directly and purposefully away, turn him away from you and proceed directly back at the judge in a smart trot. Do not deviate from your straight return route by going out round the ring, the judge will move! Proceed past the line up in trot and around the back of the line then halt neatly, the judge may or may not still be watching so it pays to do a neat finish.
For the ridden the same principles apply, stand for the judge, they may ask you to walk away and trot back, as above, before continuing with your show which should show trot and canter on both reins, maybe an extended canter on one long side and a neat halt. Don't forget to breathe and smile!! Good Luck, have fun :)
