Well, I've finally admitted that my beasty is a bit skank right now and could do with a good scrub.

So during half term (in between my heavy bouts of revision obviously!) I'm going to give him a good power washing. I joke, I joke...although that would be insane fun/revenge on the little oik!

Problem is he's white and ginge. :S

So what do you suggest for white whites (including mane and tail)? And do I use the same thing or different on his gingeryness?

I've seen posts on here before and I'm sure that one said fairy liquid for white tails? Yes? That sounds nice and cheap!

No ridiculously expensive things please! Preferably from supermarket or local average horsey shop!

Thanks!

You might joke but I had a white welshie that LOVED being power hosed!

I used Champion Silver on him and he came up gleaming, not very expensive and it lasts for ages - just remember to rinse well.

I always used henna shampoo on chestnut horses.

Good old baby shampoo works just as well:)

I used to use special shampoo designed to make white horse' gleam and to be honest I never found it much better than vosene or head and shoulders. I think it's all about the scrubbing :) you need to get yourself a good hard short haired brush and be willing to properly scrub his coat clearly not to the point it causes the horse discomfort) tails are a case of lather rinse repeat, used to take me 3 - 4 washes to get the yellow stains out...I'm so glad I have a full ginger horse now :)

I use Treseme deep cleansing shampoo on a hairy piebald. It is usually on offer at a supermarket for about £6 for two large bottles so cheaper than horse shampoo. I have used purple or blue whitening shampoos before but for the money they don't make that much difference. Try and use warm water and see if you can get some of those coloured nylon washing up scourers for scrubbing the dirty areas. The feather on our boys legs comes up really white and silky with this shampoo.
