Planning to do some grid work this weekend to help slow down ponio between jumps as she tends to tank off after a jump and need to try and get a steady balanced canter.

We are jumping our 14.2 ponies therefore, how much distance between poles? Should we stick with cross poles or have uprights too?

Any other tips/suggestions would be very welcome!!

I would do bounce fences, say 3 or 4 in a row along one side of the school.

Have the first one as a cross quite small, 2nd a bigger cross then 3rd an upright which is slightly bigger than the second and 4th if you decide to use it, same height or slightly bigger than the 3rd. I have used this many times to slow my boy down and it works a treat. I hope this makes sense.

No idea on striding for ponies I'm afraid, but whenever I do gridwork/doubles etc and I'm unsure about my distance, I always start with the poles on the ground first as canter poles to check it rides nicely!

Then, you can pop up the fences one at a time, so if | means canter pole and X means jump, you have (travelling left to right!);

| | | X then,

| | X X and so on!

Keep them smallish as the point is gymnastic rather than chase me charlie! Have fun!
