Hi all, have my mare couple mths have hacked her out in company and zero issues, BUT have had the back up of people when couple spooky moments..... Really want tomoro even to hack her out for 15mins ( more of a walk down the road) tomoro after schooling but nervous about going out on my own! Any tips???? Really want to get out ... Just the two of us!

Showpony I hack on my own all the time - I love it :) But have also been there, done that with young horses.

Don't be scared to get off and lead your mare if things turn to custard. I did this with all my youngsters - I would just lead them, carrying on in the direction I was going, until things settled down and I could get back on again.

It is all about confidence both hers and yours. Happy riding.

I have been taking my girl out in hand as I am also a bit nervous, but since you have been out in company and she has been good then I think a little 15 min walk down the road is a great idea to start with, is it fairly quiet on the roads there?

As Jenny NZ said, nothing wrong with getting off and carrying on, although hopefully you have an idea of what she is like when lead on the roads, some horses suddenly find it exciting!

I am sure you will enjoy it and then you can start going out for longer, plus a hack after schooling is nice for the horse I think. Have fun!
