Tips for in-hand showing

Looking for advice from showing people (as my entire showing knowledge can fit comfortably on the back of a postage stamp!!).

I have entered India and baby Iggy in the broodmare / foal class at Blakesley show in 2 weeks. Having a panic now!

We can walk and trot around the field in quite a civilised fashion and he has been for a ride in the lorry.

Any tips / suggestions for things I should definitely remember to do (or remember not to do) in the class?

Planning to wear cream trousers, short boots, hacking jacket and beagler hat. Does that sound right? Should it be a shirt and tie or a stock?

Is it OK for my friend handling the foal to carry a showing cane? He is a little colt and can be a bit 'friendly' with his front feet.
 
Usually see more shirt and ties in showing than stocks, more correct I think. The outfit sounds ok, hard hat possibly a good idea if he is handy with his front feet.

I'm pretty sure I have seen people handling a colt with a cane. I have seen one with a chain across it's nose restraining it!

Will he wear a nice leather headcollar?

Does the mare have dark legs in which case cream trousers are good. If her legs are white go for dark trousers.
 
You're outfit and the amount of work you've done sounds absolutely fine - definately go for a shirt and tie, stocks aren't correct for showing at most levels. It's fine to carry a show cane, especially if it'll help.
 
And make sure your both wearing hats! Its the height of rudeness to enter a show ring without a hat on!
 
Hi - I wanted to do this class too, but I thought Blakesley was cancelled???? Or was it just the ball that they cancelled? Hope it's not, was looking forward to it.
