Tips for incontinence?

The last week I've been coming down in the night to make a bottle for the teething baby and every night I've been finding our old lady lab Meg sleeping in her own wee... I'm having to bath her now because it makes her all greasy and smelly. I always thought I would PTS when this happened but she is so lively and happy in herself that it just doesn't seem the right time. I need to get her new bedding now, any ideas on something waterproof but comfy (she is a bit stiff and likes a deep soft bed!). Or do you think I'm dragging it out? She's compltley senile but happy in her world and I would feel like I'm putting down an otherwise healthy dog. She's such a sweet old girl and i want to do the right thing by her!!
 
You have just said she is completely senile and is now incontinent. When she becomes doubly incontinent, it will be even worse. Personally either scenario that would be enough for me to make "the" decision.

Bearing in mind you also have a small baby to look after, I think you need to make the decision for your benefit too.
 
I've just been reading about propalin, anyone any experience of this, is it worth a go? Her senility isn't much of a problem, sometimes she just stands and barks at thin air (like she would if she was happy to see us coming home), she air scratches (been checked by vet, no reasons found) and if the doors are open in the house she will wander from room to room to room, like she is hunting for something.

She shows absolutley no distress and is always happy to see us. She's the perfect weight, eats and drinks well, I have monitored her water intake and it's not excessive so I'm not worried about her kidneys. I've never had such an old dog of my own before (14 years), it's quite stressful isn't it!!
 
Propalin is a fabulous product for incontinence and vet bed for her bedding, as the urine locks into the core of the bedding, so the top stays dry, hence no urine stains on her or lying in urine, get yourself a few sheets, it takes literally 5 mins to dry a piece of vet bed in the dryer, as practically spins dry from the washing machine

I have used Propalin on an older bitch who leaked urine sometimes but wasn't totally incontinent. It certainly helped her. I think it all depends on the causes of the incontinence, if it is just weak bladder muscle then Propalin will help, but not so much if there is an underlying problem. I know what you mean about senile, our old Ushi was not quite with it for the last 6 months of her life, she was pts in October after a stroke. We also had a 14 year old lancashire heeler that used to bark at thin air

I would suggest a chat with your vet re your old girl, presumably you will have to see him if you want to try Propalin anyway.
