You can buy a full waterproof rain mac for horses, covers them from head to tail.

This is really useful stuff if you have a horse that likes to wallow in mud. It makes the mud stick less to the coat so it brushes off more easily and doesn't stain as much:

You can also use baby oil but it doesn't last as long - you need to top it up every other day where the 7 day mud away will go 5ish days. Clipping does make it a lot easier and I have to admit to using a snuggy hood turnout hood on my really dirty grey if I was going somewhere and needed him clean, otherwise I used their headless neck as it stopped mud going on their neck. Mostly though I just ignored it until spring 😂 One of my greys was a complete mud wallower and my efforts were more to make it so that I didn't have to spend hours brushing every time I rode more than to keep him white!

I think any colour horse looks like a bog pony when it's rained on out riding - best solution is to avoid riding in the rain 🙈

Mine 2 weeks ago not long after his first clip. ATM he is out overnight about 15 hours. I had given him a quick brush before we left the yard. He wears a sheet with belly wrap under a turnout with removable neck. I wash the sheet and the neck regularly. When it is really bad he wears a full Snuggy head and neck not the t/o neck.
A lot of the cleanliness is down to him though. Although he does roll he is generally a clean pony. I am quite lucky.
