Dear lovely H and H people.

My boy is currently on box rest and his stable gets a bit warm so in the p.m. he sweats a bit. I've sponged him off with cool water and cold towels. Wondering about buying a portable air cooler. Does anyone else have any tips/tricks just want him super comfortable until he gets better.

Immersing an old fly rug in cold water then heaving it onto the horse to drip dry is a useful trick that I deployed in last year's big heatwave. It takes a couple of hours to dry out, then rinse and repeat.

I did get rather filthy and stinky, though 🤣.
Or even a new fly rug, which might be a bit cleaner at first, at least.

My friend installed huge fans in her stables connected to the already existing electricity connection and it didn't cost that much, the fans were £50 on amazon they are the big metal ones and her partner fitted them really high up on the walls.

I've got a big evaporative cooler which takes 15l of water, and lasts all day without refiling. I use it in my house, but would have no hesitation in using it at the yard if I had something on box rest in hot weather. Great bit of kit
