My seven year old wants to enter her pony club's Christmas showjumping event. It's a fun event with emphasis on fancy dress etc. The only problem is that the lowest class is x poles (30cm) and she's never really jumped properly before, just some wee practices in the school at home. I would assist her in the ring and her instructor says go for it. So....
Does she need to canter over each jump or is trotting ok? Pony is 13.1hh if that helps.
Any tips for teaching her the position or how to start in general? Her instructor will help but we only see him every two weeks so need done stuff to work on at home too.
Any tips for teaching children to jump greatly received!!

Trotting will be fine. I don’t worry too much about teaching youngsters to fold over jumps - I’d rather they focussed on keeping their eyes looking at a point ahead and let the pony come up to them.

Don’t overthink it - it’s the instructor’s job to teach them, and you need to support what they are saying to your daughter.

have fun!
