I'm taking Jenny dressaging tomorrow and she has a section of her mane about 10cm long that has been rubbed by the neck cover on her rug. Its about in the area where the neck strap of a martingale would go. There is enough hair to put a plait in - its just very thin and wispy and so I will end up with a row of normal plaits with 1 teeny weedy one in that area. I'm not sure how noticable it will be but wondered if anyone had any tips how to make it less obvious. At the moment I'm thinking of dividing the thin area into 2 and plaiting it in with the thicker hair either side if that would work but am open to suggestions

mine rubbed all his out with sweet itch last year. I 'stole' some mane off the youngsters, banded it as the top, plaited it and put a band at the bottom. i then banded this into the little hair he had (with his short hair under the plait so you cant see it) and then just rolled the plait around his short hair and sewded like mad. (plus lots of hair spray) Its quite fiddly but looks good, no-one noticed!
Hope that helps!xxx

Thanks guys - I know it doesn't really matter to the judge - but it matters to me - I like Jenny looking smart. Thanks for the tip Charlotte. Perhaps when I thin out the rest of her mane I should keep some of the hair to make a fake plait for emergencies. I'm hoping now she doesn't have the neck cover if I shorten and thin the rest of her mane gradually then it'll start to blend in.
