My mare is now recovered from a suspensory injury and can be turned out again after 3 months box rest!!
Please can I have people's tips for the easiest and safest way to do this.
Someone has suggested doping for the first time, but I'm not sure. Is this safe?

Turn out in a small area (eg a small fenced off paddock) on her own. If she is likely to go very mad, I would have her doped to be on the safe side - you don't want her reinuring herself! Also, it will be safer for you when turning her out!

As above, but perhaps make the small paddock a very grassy one, so there is lots of tasty grass to distract her from going mad. (yeah right! But worth a try!)

My mare was on box rest and later box confinement whilst being ridden following a tear to her DDFT. When she was turned out she was in a half field, dont know what acreage to say size wise but not big. It wasnt too small either as if she ran around then it would involve tight turns etc. She had slight sedation but to be honest, was only interested in grass. She was fine and she had been inside for a total time of 14 months.

Mine was in for eight weeks earlier this year. When she went out, she reared like I've never seen her do in my life. I think she may have performed a capriole too. Luckily it didn't matter with her injury, but if if did I think I would sedate!
